Review: Prism+ Aura Air Purifier—Cute and Affordable

It has one job, and it does it.

Prism+ started out making monitors and TVs, but now they’ve recently expanded their home appliance repertoire to include air purifiers and air conditioners. The Prism+ Aura is a very straightforward air purifier; unlike other air purifiers with humidifiers or other bells and whistles built into it, it does exactly what it is supposed to: purify your air.

Priced at only RM429, the Prism+ Aura is possibly one of the cheapest air purifiers you can get on the market. But is it any good? Let’s find out.

Prism+ Aura Features and Specifications

1. HEPA H13 Filtration Technology:

  • Medical-grade filter capturing 99.97% of airborne contaminants
  • Superior to common HEPA filters, providing higher protection against pollutants.

2. Infrared Sensor:

  • Continuously monitors air quality in real-time.
  • Provides accurate readings of pollution levels.

3. Auto Mode:

  • Automatically adjust fan speed based on detected air quality.
  • Increases fan speed when air quality is poor and decreases when air is clean to conserve energy.

4. Silent Operation with DC Brushless Motor:

  • Operates at a whisper-quiet noise level of 30dB, ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, and study rooms.
  • Ensures a peaceful and distraction-free environment.

5. PRISM+ Connect App:

  • Allows monitoring and control via smartphone.
  • Set custom routines, timers, and receive filter replacement notifications.
  • Compatible with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks for remote control.

Design

The Prism+ Aura is relatively small compared to other air purifiers I’ve seen on the market, so it doesn’t take up much desk space—in my case, bedside table space. Its slim and cylindrical shape is pleasing to the eye and doesn’t look out of place in a modern home setting at all. Also, the robot face is quite cute too!

There is only one button on the air purifier itself, which is the on/off button on the back of the robot’s face. All other controls are only accessible through the PRISM+ Connect App, which I found a bit of an oversight.

It’s fine if the air purifier is placed in a bedroom and will only be controlled by one person. However, if it’s in a public place where someone else would need to tweak the settings on the air purifier, it’s a little tedious to have every family member download the app. I would’ve really preferred it if Prism+ had just included some of the more important controls, like setting timers and changing the modes.

Performance

The first thing I noticed about the Prism+ Aura is that it operates pretty silently—in fact, when I first started using it, I was wondering if it was actually doing anything at all, because apart from the brief “whoosh” at startup, the air purifier pretty much makes no noise at all.

According to Prism+, the Aura employs HEPA H13 Filtration Technology, using a medical-grade filter that can capture 99.97% of airborne contaminants. Replacing the filter is as easy as just twisting the main part of the air purifier off the bottom and taking out the large, singular filter. The filter can also be found on Prism+’s website and other e-commerce sites, so there’s no need to worry about replacing it, at least for now.

The small size of the Prism+ Aura makes it only suitable for individual rooms or smaller apartments. For the record, I tested the air purifier in a roughly 200-square-feet bedroom and a much larger living room (more than 500 sqft). Obviously, the air purifier was much effective in the small room.

The small bedroom is located on the ground floor toward the back of the house, right beside the kitchen and with the windows directly across from my neighbour’s kitchen, so you can just imagine the concoction of smells in the room come dinner time if I kept my window open. For the purposes of this review, I left the windows open for most of the day and then closed them after dinner. The Aura was left running the entire day and night in Auto mode.

The air purifier did eliminate quite a bit of the weird smells which would typically still be lingering, so I’ll count that as a win. As for eliminating dust and air pollutants, that’s a little harder to prove, but I did notice less cumulation of dust over the following weeks.

The Prism+ Aura is a great starter air purifier at a really affordable price. It’s suitable for those who are looking to improve their indoor air quality without having to break the bank. The sleek design also blends well with most home decor, so it wouldn’t stand out too much.
