New year, new smartphone? Even if that wasn't the case for you, we're sure you were waiting for one of the annual launches from Samsung. The Galaxy S24+ is fresh off the production line, and it comes with the brand's newest innovation to smartphones, Galaxy AI.
We couldn't wait to try it out for ourselves, so here are our first impressions of the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24+. And yes, we had to ask the million-dollar question: Does the Galaxy AI live up to its hype?

Design & Display
As always, Samsung doesn’t fix what has already been working for them. So while the exterior design of the Samsung Galaxy S24+ might not have changed from the previous model, there are a few changes that were made to this year’s model, namely – the materials used to make the phone.
The Galaxy S24 series is the first of the entire Galaxy S lineup made from recycled materials, as part of Samsung’s efforts to commit to their new recycled material goal. This includes a design featuring recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU).
Meanwhile, the slimmer bezels on the Galaxy S24+’s 6.7-inch display make for a more immersive viewing experience, and the fact that it supports the same level of QHD+ as the Galaxy S24 Ultra means the resolution is just as crisp too!
Performance
Of course, the main highlight of this year’s Galaxy S24 series is the introduction of the Galaxy AI! The Exynos 2200 processor in the Galaxy S24+ is capable of efficiently powering the numerous AI features on the smartphone, such as Live Translate, Note Assist, the intuitive Circle to Search function, and many more from Galaxy AI.
What’s impressive was seeing how quick Galaxy AI was to handle the requests given. When using the Transcript Assist function with our voice recordings in two different languages, it could breeze through the recordings and translate with absolutely no issue or lag at all.
Interpreter was another impressive test for performance, as it took almost no time to translate our live conversation and display it on the split screen view. The best part? It works without WiFi or cellular data! We could only imagine the possibilities this could have when travelling overseas – it’s like having a language genius stored conveniently in your pocket.
So, when we consider the sheer number of smart AI functions it could carry out simultaneously, the lack of lag and seamless transitions in between each action on the Galaxy S24+ is an incredible testament to the processing performance.
Camera
Last but not least, one of (almost) everyone’s most important features when it comes to smartphones, is the camera. So how does the camera on the Galaxy S24+ fare?
To put it simply, the shots are just as amazing as the ones taken on last year’s model, as the specifications of the camera hardware have remained the same. What’s different about this year's Galaxy S24+, however, is the addition of – you guessed it – Galaxy AI.
As someone who dabbles in photo editing but does not invest much time into learning the more complicated aspects of it, Galaxy AI is truly a game changer in quick and easy photo editing. Edit Suggestion took our photos to the next level, and this isn’t an exaggeration.
You know those pesky reflections you get when taking a picture out of a reflective surface like a window? Yeah, those are now gone. It perfectly edited and tweaked our photos not so much to the extent that one could tell it was heavily edited, but rather so subtly that one would assume it was part of the original photo all along.
Overall, the star of the show this time around is definitely the Galaxy AI. The Samsung Galaxy S24+ might just be one of the best (and pretty smart) AI smartphones to be made available in the market right now. We can’t wait to delve into an in-depth review to test out the rest of the AI functionalities, so keep an eye out for it!
