ICYMI, Samsung launched their newest flagships, the Galaxy S24 Series, in their biannual Galaxy Unpacked Event. This year, the event was held in San Jose, California. A lot of things went down in the Galaxy Unpacked 2024, but the hero, of course, is the “big brother” of the Galaxy S24 Series: the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra!

Display & Design
On the outside, the Galaxy S24 Ultra looks pretty similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra which looked pretty similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra—yes, that’s three generations of lookalike phones. Why fix something that’s not broken, right?
It still has everything the last two generations had: a flat, boxy look, integrated S Pen slot with the S Pen, floating module-less camera setup, etc.
For the display, the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a flatter QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display measuring 6.8”. The display incorporates Corning® Gorilla® Armor for enhanced durability and reduced reflection, providing an optimal visual experience.
Performance
Powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy processor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a flagship powerhouse. With an optimal thermal control system with a 1.9 times larger vapour chamber, the Galaxy S24 Ultra ensures effective regulation of surface temperature and sustained performance over extended periods.
Most importantly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has improved NPU performance for efficient AI processing. Galaxy AI was one of the biggest highlights during the launch—from what we learned, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with a lot of interesting AI features, ranging from live translation to notetaking assistants.
We did manage to try a couple of those out, including Live Translation over calls. How that happens, basically, is that as you speak over the phone, Galaxy AI will translate your speech immediately after you speak in the language of your choice. There was barely any delays, and while we couldn’t really verify the accuracy of the translation when we tested it out there, it still sounded pretty impressive.
Another AI feature that was interesting to us was the AI Note Assist. Basically, the feature is integrated into Samsung’s native Notes app. It will be able to help summarize long texts for you, or even help you compose emails or other texts in various different tones!
Beyond communication, the Galaxy S24 series also has Circle to Search, which is a very useful feature where you can look up anything on your screen just by circling it. Yes, it’s that simple! To activate Circle to Search, we just had to long press the home button and circle the item we want to look up, and Google will just pop up. It’s like Google Lens, but without the separate app!
Camera
As always, Samsung’s newest flagships have some of the best cameras out there. This year, there wasn’t a very significant upgrade in the hardware beyond a larger pixel size and a larger telephoto camera.
It also sports a new 5x optical zoom lens, which, when working in tandem with the 50MP camera, delivers optical-quality photos at up to 10x zoom.
The most important upgrade here, once again, is in the software: namely, the ProVisual Engine that powers all the AI tools. One particular AI feature that we really had fun with was the Generative Edit, where we could generative a different background for our photos!
