We Decided To “Go The S-Tra Mile”: Food-Hunting With The Galaxy S23 Ultra

As they always say: The camera eats first!

In case you haven’t heard, Samsung launched a new campaign called “Go the S-tra Mile with Samsung Galaxy S23 Series” in order to encourage travellers to capture hidden gems around Malaysia. By harnessing the prowess of the Samsung Galaxy S Series camera, grab some creative shots of Malaysia’s most awe-inspiring vistas and stand a chance to win a photography trip to Korea!

Of course, we can’t give up such a great opportunity. Armed with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, we’ve also participated in the 'Go the S-tra Mile' campaign—and what better way to explore Malaysia than through a culinary trip?

What's Cooking in Kedah?

This rice field state is famous for its sup utara and nasi lemak kuning, but these aren’t the only delicious foods in Alor Setar, Kedah. During our trip to Alor Setar, we made it a mission to explore the lesser-known eateries there, and here’s what we found (and snapped)!

Duck Rice

On our first day there, we headed straight to Masjid Nagore located in the heart of Alor Setar.

Location: Masjid Nogore, Alor Setar

First-time visitors might not know that behind this mosque, there's a shop that serves delicious duck rice and chapati that are so good they'll haunt your dreams! The thick sauce paired with cucumber slices is absolutely kicking!

However, it's a bit hidden behind the mosque. It's not even on Waze, so if you want to go there, you’ll have to set your directions for Masjid Nagore

This was taken with Food Mode available in the Camera app. Doesn’t it just look just scrumptious? And that’s just the photo—just wait till you actually taste the duck!

Kuey Tiaw Goreng

After allowing ourselves some rest after the delicious Nasi Itik, we went to Medan Kota to find another hidden gem eatery.

Location: Medan Kota, Alor Setar, Kedah

Here, we had some Kuey Tiaw Goreng, which was incredibly delicious! If we had our way, we'd want another plate, but we had to save room for dinner. And check out this photo we took using the Food mode: it’s beautiful and clear, right? Even though it was dark around 7 pm and the shop's lights were dim where we sat, the photo taken with the Galaxy S23 Ultra still popped!

There’s not only Kuey Tiaw Goreng here; there’s also a burger shop in front that serves burgers, french fries, and much more. But who would have thought that behind this burger shop there's a Kuey Tiaw Goreng so delightful it'll stay with you even after getting back to Kuala Lumpur!

Some Night-Time Strolling

After filling up, we took a stroll around Alor Setar city to see what else was interesting at night.

Location: Dataran Alor Setar, Kedah

Location: Bandar Alor Setar, Kedah

Location: Bandar Alor Setar, Kedah

Look at some of the photos we managed to take at night. They’re all brilliant and all on point, right? These were all taken using the Night Mode feature on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra—a good camera really made our vacation more complete, doesn’t it?

We also compared photos taken at night and during the day with the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera, and here is the result we got.

Location: Bandar Alor Setar, Kedah

It may not be the same angle, but trust us when we say the Galaxy S23 Ultra can take photos of what you actually see without any distortions or unwanted flares, even under low-light conditions. There’s no need to worry about editing!

Also: Enjoy the View with the Galaxy S23 Ultra

And that’s not all; we also managed to visit some places with interesting architecture. For example, this photo was taken while we visited Ais Kacang Salji located in Gurun, Kedah on our way back to KL. It’s located in a pretty remote area, so it may not be well-known.

From the outside, it looks like an ordinary shop, but once you enter, you'll be amazed by its landscape decoration.

Isn't it beautiful? Even though the weather was a bit cloudy at the time, the Galaxy S23 Ultra still managed to provide very satisfying results. With 200MP on its camera, the photos it takes are bright, sharp, and clear!
