Cropping and Reframing Tips & Tricks: Keep Your Eye On The Details — Even If You’ve Already Taken The Shot!

And yes, that’s possible if you’re shooting on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra!

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a beast of a smartphone. A flagship that packs all the bells and whistles and then some, one of the most talked-about features on the phone has to be the “epically equipped” camera setup.

Samsung continues to push the boundaries in the world of smartphone cameras with its Galaxy Ultra range. Last year, the flagship Galaxy S22 Ultra already took awesome photos with its 108MP camera; this year, Samsung has upped the ante by almost doubling the main camera’s resolution to a whopping 200MP on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

This is also the brand’s first 200MP camera phone complete with an Adaptive Pixel sensor that allows for more light intake. That means, along with the higher resolution, the Gaalxy S23 Ultra is able to capture clearer and more detailed images even in low-light conditions.

Of course, if we get into the nitty-gritty of things, 200MP can seem a little overkill, especially since most of us are just taking photos generally for the ‘Gram. However, Samsung means business when it comes to mobile photography.

With a higher resolution and more detailed photo, you’re given more freedom to crop and reframe only the most important parts of your photos — without losing any detail!

Zoom Into Nature

When taking photographs of wildlife, you can’t exactly go up to the animal and snap photos right in its face. At best, you’d spook it and the animal will run away; at worst, you might get hurt. Most wildlife photographers are well prepared with giant zoom lenses and multiple pieces of equipment to ensure that they can capture the best photos even at a distance.

With the Galaxy S23 Ultra, you can just snap a picture from where you are, then crop and reframe it as you see fit. Here’s one of our examples:

After cropping the same photo of the yellow-billed stork, we got a breathtaking close-up of its head without losing any of the detail!

Short-Sighted? Take A Pic Of It!

Sometimes, short-sighted people like me have trouble reading words that are just a little too far away. One life hack is to look at it through your phone’s camera — however, some cameras just cannot provide enough detail to read that sign. Not with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, though.

Here, we have a shot taken inside a shopping mall.

You can check out the cropped portion of the same shopping mall photo, which focuses on the “Mental Colours Of Wellbeing” poster with the majority of the wording still readable even when cropped after the photo is taken.

Grainy Night Photos? Nevermore!

Our third example is a nighttime photo of the scenic Riverside Point waterfront illuminated by the lights from the shopping and dining establishments.

Even in a zoomed-in angle taken from the same nighttime photo, the Riverside Point arched signage remains visible in sight.

Similarly, we have another nighttime shot taken from the Floral Clock in the Gardens by the Bay, Singapore.

Using the same nighttime Floral Clock photo, here’s the close-up shot of the main attraction itself.

Even though it’s shot under low light conditions, the Galaxy S23 Ultra captured enough details through its 200MP cameras so that even cropping and reframing the photo after it is taken does not affect the quality or the amount of detail!

As you can see, the S23 Ultra’s new 200MP main camera isn’t a gimmick and this is all made possible thanks to Samsung’s latest ISOCELL HP2 sensor. The sensor in question comes equipped with 200 million effective resolution at 0.6 micrometres (μm) pixel size in a 1/1.3-inch optical format.

Plus, it also uses Samsung’s dual vertical gate technology (D-VTG) to enhance not only the colours but also the details in every pixel, coupled with the sensor’s advanced deep-learning algorithm designed to determine the quality of each photo taken from the S23 Ultra. In other words, you can still enjoy clarity even if the image is cropped or zoomed in.

For all it’s worth, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Utlra has certainly lived up to its reputation as one of the best camera smartphones so far!
