Adidas, the global sportswear giant, has unveiled "Move For The Planet", an initiative designed to gather the sporting communities around the world in collective action and take it by storm for a cause.
The initiative encourages participants to transform their physical activities into steps towards combating climate change, with Adidas pledging to donate €1 to the non-profit organization Common Goal for every 10 minutes of activity logged across 34 sports in the Adidas Running app between 1 June and 12 June 2023, up to €1.5 million.
Ashley Czarnowski, Senior Director, Global Purpose Marketing at Adidas, explains, "Move For The Planet is an opportunity to harness the world's love of sports to support some of the communities that need it most. The impact of the climate crisis is being felt more severely in some places than others, however, the one thing that unites us all is our love for sports."
The funds raised will support a variety of sustainability projects through Common Goal in countries such as Colombia, Greece, South Africa, and Pakistan. These projects, selected for their focus on communities most affected by climate change, range from renewing sports pitches using recycled materials to providing training on reducing plastic waste in sports facilities.
- Move For The Planet in Malaysia
The Malaysian arm of Adidas is hosting a series of events between 1 June to 12 June 2023, as part of the Move For The Planet initiative. These activities include a walking event at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, a spin class session at Journey Indoor Cycling Studio, indoor golf lessons at MST Golf Arena, and a special run with Adidas Runners Kuala Lumpur.
Adidas also offers promotional gifts and special prizes as part of the campaign. Customers purchasing apparel or footwear from the Parley collection will receive a complimentary Move For The Planet Own the Run t-shirt. Moreover, the three adiClub members who clock in the most time tracked on their Adidas Running App will win passes to InMotion, a fitness event organised by Adidas’ brand partner, W Hotel.
