Maybank Introduces "Kill Switch" Feature To Instantly Deactivate Access To Online Maybank Accounts

Online scammers no more.

Malayan Bank Berhad (Maybank) has followed in other banking services' footsteps to combat online banking scams by introducing a "kill switch" security feature. Customers can now immediately deactivate access to their Maybank2u and MAE accounts with one simple tap if they suspect that their accounts have been compromised in any way.

Previously introduced in CIMB and OCBC banking services, the Kill Switch feature adds another layer of security to online banking users. Starting 28 January, this feature will be available for Maybank customers too.

The “Kill Switch” feature can be used via both the Maybank2u web and the MAE app, with the M2U app being the exception. For security reasons, during the deactivation period, you will not be able to log into your Maybank2u account. Reactivation can only be done after verification at any Maybank branch or through Maybank Group Customer Care. You will, however, still be able to make regular withdrawals at ATMs and use your physical debit or credit cards when your accounts are temporarily disabled.

To activate the Kill Switch feature on your MAE app, simply:

  1. Launch your MAE app and tap 'More'
  2. Tap 'Kill Switch'
  3. Select 'Deactivate M2U Access'
  4. Read the terms and tap 'Deactivate Now' should you choose to use the feature
  5. Tap 'Confirm' to proceed

If you're on the Maybank2 web, you can:

  1. Go to 'SETTINGS' after logging in
  2. Click 'SECURITY' and select 'Kill Switch'
  3. Under 'Deactivate M2U Access' click 'DEACTIVATE' if you want to use the feature
  4. Read the terms and click 'PROCEED'
  5. Click 'CONFIRM' to proceed
