Set Up & Use

To note, it is possible to have this microwave convection oven as your standalone, all-in-one machine for all kinds of cooking. As the oven has a 35L capacity for cooking, it's capable of cooking an entire roasted chicken properly.

Thus, this is a big oven. In fact, when we first received the oven, we were worried that it couldn't fit onto our tiny pantry counter. Thankfully, we managed to make space for the oven.

Like many ovens, you'll want to have at least an additional 10cm worth of space around this convection microwave oven (20cm in total for the back of the oven). This is to avoid any heat hazard emitted by the oven towards other products. It's also best to have the oven be away from other heavy-duty appliances such as a fridge or a stove.

Moving on; please know that the packaging this oven will ship in is huge and very heavy (33kg in total with packaging). Therefore, it will take at least two people to carry the freestanding oven out of the box and onto a solid kitchen counter (not a table).

Thankfully, after unboxing the oven, installation is pretty simple. Once placed on your counter, all you need to do is plug its single cable at the back into a power socket. Then, turn it on and set the clock (the product's given manual has steps to do so).

Samsung has advised giving the internals a clean with a damp cloth at a minimum. To get rid of any metal odours, feel free to microwave a suitable drinkware filled with lemon water for 30 seconds  - 1 minute.

The guide has a list of suitable dining ware that can be used in the oven too. In short, your typical baking trays, ceramic and certain glassware will be safe for use. Any food-safe plastic deemed microwaveable is also safe to be used so as long they are for reheating (microwave) food only.

Features

Now let's move on to what this big oven can offer. To recap, this is a smart microwave convection oven with multiuse; devised to be an all-in-one monster machine for cooking.

Whatever type of contemporary cooking you want to do is possible as this 6-in-1 oven has:

  1. Air Fry
  2. Grill
  3. Baking
  4. Steam
  5. Microwave
  6. Dehydration / Fermentation

Essentially, you can really cook a menu that's bigger than you think.

Without further ado, here are some of Samsung's Convection Microwave Oven features that make them stand out among the competition.

HotBlast™:

This notable feature is definitely a highlight that's found in many Samsung ovens, and it's thankfully built into this Microwave Convection Oven. Utilising the HotBlast™ technology, it offers a very efficient way of cooking that reduces cooking times significantly.

How it works is that powerful hot air is blown through multiple air holes inside the oven, and directly onto the food. This results in food that's cooked evenly with a crispy outside but maintains juiciness inside.

Air Fry:

Thanks to the functions and way of design built into the oven, it is capable of cooking fried dishes without additional oil. Should they be frozen items that need to be deep-fried, this oven can maintain a crispy texture as well.

By circulating hot air food onto the included Samsung crusty plate, your food can be cooked with delicate crispiness on the outside while maintaining a tender level of juiciness on the inside, be it with or without even a drop of oil.

Food cooked here with satisfactory texture and taste is all thanks to its combined heat source of convection and microwave. With both sources working simultaneously, the oven can also reduce cooking time by up to 50% compared to most typical air fryers.

Pro Steamer:

What's also a delight is that you can steam food in this oven too (something that's hard to achieve in many ovens). As mentioned before, Samsung has included a three-layer stainless steamer cover that helps to keep food moisture within, preventing ingredients from overly drying out. So yes, go ahead and cook all your steamed fish and vegetables with this oven!

Grill:

Not surprisingly, due to having the combination of microwave and convection functions, the oven is able to cook food using grill methods too.

With PowerGrill Duo, you don't just get to eat grilled food, but also have them cooked way faster. With the oven's innovative wide grill heater, heat is delivered with significantly more power. It offers a maximum of 1600w for versatility as well as ensures a more consistent heat distribution.

Performance & Maintenance

Our Samsung Microwave Convection Oven with HotBlast Review:

Prior to cooking, we exclusively tried the microwave oven's features. The feedback from the office was positive.

Several types of food were heated relatively quickly while maintaining texture. What was pleasantly surprising was that when we heated up different types of food be it fried fish fingers with rice and steamed vegetables at the same time, all of the ingredients maintained their moisture levels and texture.

So without wasting time on ready-made food that only needs to be heated up with the microwave, we went with the "cook a whole meal" route to further carry on with our review.

I, the reviewer, invited a couple of my fellow teammates to be guinea pigs and dine on food cooked by me using just the oven.

In short, we had a balanced meal comprising of:

  • AEON marinated chicken
  • Potato croquette with cheese
  • Salad mix (not cooked in the oven)
  • Bonus: Peanut butter cookies (3 ingredients)

There's not much we can say except that we can now happily save on lunch expenses moving forward. From defrosting the AEON chicken packs to choosing the right menu cooking option, this oven did it all for us effortlessly. Plus, the food was cooked with the right texture and moisture levels.

Other highlights that delighted us were:

  • Automatic weighing of ingredients to determine the right defrosting and cooking time
  • Beep notification to turn the food so that food is cooked evenly
  • The oven was not too overly hot in its surroundings nor was it loud when in operation

A complaint we have about cooking with the oven is that you'll have to read both the laminated guide and manual before cooking any food. The physical menu panel has no alphabetical label to indicate what menu you have chosen.

In fact, just reading only the laminated menu but not the printed guide almost caused us preparation errors when it came to defrosting or cooking food. When performing these two actions, the oven will apparently beep to notify you to turn over your food so that it can be heated and cooked evenly.

Cleaning:

Just as how easy it was for setting up, the oven is also pretty easy to clean up after. To note, the oven's ceramic enamel interior is designed with anti-bacterial protection that's hygienic and durable.

Therefore, you can expect little to no heavy-pressured scrubbing or scratched surfaces. Because of that, even we at the office can easily clean the oven without any scrubbing required, thus preventing bacteria and especially odour from spreading or lingering.

A bonus is that the interior is made durable enough to not discolour easily, maintaining its premium finish for a long time.
