Instagram To Remove Shop Tab Starting Next Month

Instagram's looking at a design overhaul to their navigation bar

Table of Contents

In 2020, Instagram made a drastic change to the overall design of their home feed, when they replaced the Activity tab with the new Shop tab. This obviously created mixed opinions from users as the Compose button ("+") and Activity tab were also relocated to the top right of the home screen, making it harder for us to navigate them. However, this will change soon and it's good news for those who prefer the old IG layout!

Instagram recently announced that they will be bringing a simpler layout to the app this February. The company states that they will remove the Shop tab entirely and return the Compose button (“+”) to the front and centre of the navigation bar at the bottom of the app. By doing so, the Reels button will now move over to the right of Compose, losing its prime spot. Though it's not much, this will surely be good news for some Instagrammers as we can now have easier navigation to add and share posts or stories, by simply tapping the "+" button at the centre of the navigation bar.

For those wondering how to shop on Instagram now that the Shop tab is removed, you will still be able to make purchases through the app as usual, just no longer through a designated section. Instead, it is now more accessible through several forms of content such as ads, reels and key sharing that includes videos or photos.
