Galaxy S22 Series: Take It To The Sun With Samsung’s Vision Booster

Using your phone under the sun won’t be so tormenting anymore!

The Samsung Galaxy S22 may be 9 months old, but it is still one of the best flagship phones launched in 2022. It has everything you need in a smartphone: a stunning 6.1-inch AMOLED 2X display, a high 120Hz refresh rate, a multitasking-friendly Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and excellent professional-level cameras that takes really impressive night photos, just to name some of the known ones. And today, we’re here to add to the list: Vision Booster.

So, Tell Me More About Vision Booster

As the name suggests, Vision Booster is Samsung’s innovative technology that automatically calibrates the display brightness of the Galaxy S22 Series under direct sunlight.

So what? You ask. All phones have adaptive brightness.

That is a very good question, and here’s what special about it: Vision Booster’s adjustments aren’t just restricted to contrast but also peak brightness and colour tones, which helps to improve visibility.

Why Should I Care About Vision Booster?

Picture this: You wanted to kill some time playing a mobile game while waiting for the bus to arrive. Then, this happens: the brighter-than-usual afternoon sunlight hinders your visibility and causes a reflection on your phone display, making it harder to see what’s on the screen.

Typically, you would swipe the designated slider from the left to the right side to increase the brightness of your phone until you can see the screen properly. But sometimes, not even peak brightness can fight the glaring sunlight, which is not surprising since it’s THE sun. You know, the brightest thing in our solar system.

Samsung understands that this common frustration happens to many phone users out there, which is why they came up with Vision Booster. Incorporated into the Galaxy S22 Series, it allows users to use the smartphone comfortably even under direct sunlight.

You see, Vision Booster allows you to see things clearly. And it doesn’t matter whether you are scrolling a web page, streaming a movie or playing a mobile game while using your phone under direct sunlight.

How Does It Really Work Anyway?

When the phone detects or recognises a high-brightness illumination while you are outdoors, it activates Vision Booster. Using the algorithmic technology on the display panel, Vision Booster adjusts the tonal value of an image on your display a.k.a. tone-mapping that includes brightness, colour and contrast. This, in turn, enhances the quality of your display while improving visibility.

Cool! Now, How Do I Enable Vision Booster?

As mentioned earlier, Vision Booster works automatically in the Galaxy S22 series. In other words, you don’t have to enable or disable the feature because there is no manual option available. The phone just “knows” by itself as it will automatically enable if the surrounding illumination condition hits above 50,000 lux, which is equivalent to exposure under direct sunlight. But the feature will automatically disable if it reaches less than 20,000 lux.

What We Wish To See In The Galaxy S23 Series

No doubt the current Galaxy S22 series has a fantastic display and a nifty, automated Vision Booster feature. But no upcoming phone release would be complete without some upgrades and this is especially true with the next Galaxy smartphone.

Take Vision Booster, for instance. The Galaxy S22 series currently varies from 1,300 nits (S22) to 1,750 nits (S22+, S22 Ultra) of peak brightness, and that is pretty bright on itself — if the next Galaxy smartphone surpasses that, it could be the brightest phone screen on the market.
