We live in a time where we get to gush about the technology of a simple yet, essential household appliance - handheld vacuum cleaners. And if you have not known, Dyson certainly does make some of the best vacuum cleaners in Malaysia. Designed with high-end engineering construction yet commanding a high price tag, you've likely asked yourself whether they are worth the money.
Most of the time, many users say yes and that they are also worth the attention. So can we say the same for the latest Dyson V15 Detect Absolute?
Dyson has called the V15 Detect Absolute their most powerful and intelligent cordless vacuum for households with pets. Compared to other models, the V15 Detect Absolute comes with a new cleaning head that quickly removes all hair from surfaces.
It's also fitted with some crazy advanced technologies such as an updated Dust illumination technology to see every dirt and debris as well as an Acoustic piezo sensor to count all the dirt it has collected, finished with an acute HEPA filtration system. If anything, it will turn you into a clean freak (more on this later).
Without further ado, here's what we think about the Dyson V15 Detect after our tests.

In total, Dyson states that the V15 Detect Absolute officially comes with 2 cleaner heads and 7 tools as well as accessories. We also had the opportunity to get the Pet Grooming Tool which is highly recommended for pet owners.

Set-up & Use
Like most Dyson vacuums, the V15 Detect Absolute utilises a plug-and-play use system. Just attach any of the cleaner heads or tools to the main unit and start it up. With that, the vacuum is easy to learn how to operate too due to the large display panel. This display panel lets you adjust the likes of the suction modes as well as read the Acoustic Piezo Sensor which reads the amount of dirt collected in the bin.
The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute (HEPA variant) also comes with a docking station so you can easily store your vacuum away. This is probably the trickiest part about setting up the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute as it involves screwing the dock onto the wall.
Once you get that out of the way, the Dyson can be stored away on the dock while charging, which should take 4.5 hours to fully charge. Speaking of which, the battery on the Dyson V15 can run for up to 60 minutes. This will definitely depend on what modes you use, which are Eco, Auto and Boost. To best conserve the battery, using Eco mode whenever possible is encouraged.
Here are the three modes you can switch between to suit your cleaning needs:
- Auto mode intelligently adapts with the optimum balance of power and run time.
- eco mode provides a longer run time for bigger cleans
- Boost mode is engineered for short, but intensive cleaning
Performance
In short, the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is a very "smart" vacuum in the sense that it is capable of automatically adjusting its power based on the different floor types or surfaces you're cleaning on, be it hardwood or carpet floors. The cleaner head will be able to automatically detect the change in floor type to either boost the suction power or reduce it even taking dust amount into consideration.
For us, even just compared to the previous Dyson V12 and Digital Slim models we've tried, the suction power on Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is noticeable, which we were kinda surprised by. There's no "loss" of suction when moving from surface to surface and the thickness of the carpet.
That at least shows us how the Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor works which are designed with Root Cyclone™ technology. This tech generates a force of up to 100,000g, combined with airflow caused by the cyclone technology to capture dust and debris without losing any suction power at all.

1. Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head
One of the scariest and yet coolest inventions that Dyson has given to their vacuums is this Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head fitted with a laser. What this attachment tool does is illuminate the floor or surface clearly to reveal microscopic dust on hard floors.
The attachment is made with soft nylon and anti-static carbon fibre filaments to easily tackle and extract dust from hard floors. Even so, it'll go gentle and not ruin your hard floors.
2. Digital Motorbar™ cleaner head
If you need to tackle multiple surfaces to collect dust and hair such as your tile or carpeted floor, this is the head attachment to use. How the Motobar cleaner works not only rids dust and hair easily but is also fitted with a de-tangling comb which automatically clears hair from the brush bar.
3. Built-in crevice and Comb-crevice tool
If you have tight spots to reach, you can basically use the vacuum without any cleaner heads attached to it. Simply detach with a click to reveal the ready-to-go crevice tool. Otherwise, you can also use the comb-crevice tool, which is a 2-in-1, wide nozzle and brush tool to let you switch between cleaning and dusting be it in the house or in your car.
4. Fabric and mattress tool
This is probably one of our favourite tools to use. The fabric and mattress tool essentially works to lift dust, dirt and hair from curtains and upholstery.
What makes this precision tool effective is how much it can trap. Together with its digital motor which spins up to 125,000rpm to suck up microscopic dust and large debris, the tool is capable of helping you to deep clean the depths of your mattress.
We must say, using this tool will scare you out of how dirty your mattress is. We've done a piece on how to clean your mattress before.
5. Hair screw tool
This tool enables you to easily pick up long and pet hair quickly. Thankfully with an anti-tangle conical brush bar design, it works to spiral hair off and into the bin right away before it escapes your vacuum.
6. Mini soft dusting brush
If you find yourself needing to do simple dusting, this is the tool you need. It has soft bristles to grab and suck up dust from gentle and delicate surfaces.
7. Pet Grooming Tool (Bonus)
We also got ourselves an additional Pet Grooming Tool which is great for those with fluffy friends (works for dogs and cats alike). It's not only pleasant for the cat when you brush them, but it also keeps the fur balls away and your floors fur-free for longer. To use, just brush the cat (with the vacuum off) and then turn on the vacuum to quickly suck up the fur.
Maintenance
So the vacuum has been nice to use so far. What about maintenance? Thankfully, the vacuum is easy to upkeep as well.
Cleaning
The dust disposal system with Dyson has pretty much always been great and it's the same with the V15 Detect Absolute. Here, emptying the bin is just with the push of a button to eject dirt. After that, clean the filter either with a wet cloth or wash it with water when necessary, then dry it completely before use.
Luckily for our noses, we've also found it seamless to clear dirt thanks to the HEPA filter. Which, do keep in mind that there's another V15 Absolute model without a HEPA filter.
The difference between the HEPA and non-HEPA filter versions is a few hundred Ringgits but we recommend those with sensitive noses to go for the HEPA variant as you'll be able to clean with ease and breath in fresh clean air even when vacuuming the dustiest surfaces.
Battery life
As mentioned earlier, the battery will last well (up to 60 minutes) depending on which mode you use. Although seemingly an insignificant feature, the LCD screen was really helpful in showing you the battery status as well as how much you've cleaned.
To repeat, this vacuum uses a Piezo Sensor to calculate the size of particles that you have vacuumed, which you can monitor on the LCD screen. You can even check maintenance alerts, adjust power modes and of course, track battery life. The sensor automatically changes the suction power depending on the particle size.
Speaking of which, as the Dyson V15 Absolute Detect is very powerful regardless of dust level or surface, we didn't even need to adjust the modes since the Auto mode is VERY intelligent in doing that for us.
