Foldable phones have gained considerable popularity since Samsung’s third generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3. During a conference right after the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4, Samsung’s Mobile Lead Roh Tae-moon told reporters that “By 2025, foldable items will take up more than 50% of Samsung’s total premium smartphone shipments,” and that “foldables will become the new standard of smartphones.
A future of foldable smartphones taking the mainstream market seems viable, as more and more smartphone brands are coming up with their own foldables.
Samsung released the world’s first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip As the pioneer and market leader in foldable smartphones, Samsung released the Galaxy Fold back in 2019, adding a new line to its premium smartphone range. Three years and four generations later, the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4 have gained a cult following the success of their predecessors.
In their effort to make foldable phones mainstream, Samsung is striving to make their foldable flagships even more affordable to increase adoption.
