Blizzard Entertainment has announced that Overwatch 2 will be launching in early access on PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch consoles on 4 October. The sequel to Blizzard’s acclaimed team-based shooter game will feature a new 5v5 multiplayer format with cross-platform and progression, offering incredible and fresh competitive gameplay with a new, free-to-play model and major game updates.
What’s New
At the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 on 12 June 2022, Blizzard shared a preview of what the game would have in store for launch.
Players will be introduced to new heroes, hero reworks, maps, modes, and premium cosmetics. The newest tank hero to join the roster is the ruthless Australian-born ruler of Junkertown: the Junker Queen.
She’s not the first new hero to be revealed for Overwatch 2. Previously, Blizzard has announced Sojourn, a high-mobility and railgun-wielding former Overwatch captain with cybernetic capabilities.
Apart from heroes, new and iconic international locations will also arrive in-game at launch, including the snowy New Queen Street in Toronto and bustling Midtown Manhattan. Overwatch 2 will also feature a new Push game mode, where teams can battle to take control of a symmetrical map by advancing a centrally-located robot deeper into enemy territory.
Overwatch 2: Founder’s Pack
As a gesture of appreciation for all their original players, Blizzard will be giving out a free Founder’s Pack in Overwatch 2 to all existing players who own Overwatch prior to 23 June 2022. To claim your pack, log into the live game by 5 December 2022 11:59 pm PDT.
