The disinfectant is water-based and non-alcohol but it does contain Benzalkonium Chloride which is believed to penetrate and disrupt the membrane of viruses – effectively reducing and preventing its growth on surfaces. How do nano atomizers purportedly work? It converts liquid into aerosol form (yes, like your mosquito spray). The idea is that it will disperse the disinfectant more evenly in the air – which is why it became more popular when the Delta coronavirus was prevalent. Is a spray gun for sanitising dangerous?
The Ministry of Health Malaysia and the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that people use spray guns with utmost care. Spray guns convert disinfectant liquid into an aerosol which can be dangerous.
Both institutions believe germs and bacteria can be effectively neutralised by wiping down surfaces or items with ethanol or soap. Doing so can significantly reduce the risk of exposure to the virus.
The UV light that claims to 'kill viruses' is harmful to human skin. Thus far, only UVC – one of the forms of UV light, effectively neutralises the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. But there's a catch! UVC can cause severe burns on the skin and eyes if applied incorrectly.
Should I buy a spray gun?
As we mentioned above, a spray gun is helpful where you intend to sanitise certain surfaces which do not do well with liquids – like car seats or offices with a lot of paperwork. Nevertheless, if you do not use it properly, you might end up causing more harm than good. Many companies opt to hire professionals who use disinfectants certified by MOH and KKM. They are also usually donned in protective gear when they use aerosols, and employees are to evacuate the area for a requisite time for their safety.
We hope this article provides our readers with more clarity on disinfectant spray guns. As usual, stay safe and well-informed!
