What is a 60 percent keyboard?

When we look at “percent” here, it refers to the size of the keyboard versus the standard keyboard size which has the complete set of keys.

  • Simply said, a 60% (percent) keyboard literally, shaves off 40% of the usual standard keyboard size keys by ditching generally the number pad.
  • They also typically take out the Function key row at the top, the navigation cluster and also the arrow keys.
  • In other words, you’ll just get the alphanumeric zone.

If you’re thinking about the problems that may arise with the fewer keys, chances are the manufacturers already implemented a workaround to adjust the lack of functionality. Hence, you can be worry-free and just enjoy the portability, productivity and extra space that a 60 percent keyboard brings for you.

In case that you’re wondering, most missing functions are accessible via a Function (Fn) key normally located near the bottom right side of the keyboard. This key unlocks and opens up an entirely different set of key commands or shortcuts. You can still get your arrows keys, navigation keys and even the number pad keys by pressing the extra Function key.
