The Cheapest 4K IPS Gaming Monitor? Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite Review
Best for budget switchable 4KArmaggeddon Pixxel+ PXP27-UXD Dual-Mode 4K Gaming Monitor

Direct answer: the Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite (EFX 27UHD SWITX), the switchable 1K-to-4K gaming monitor we hands-on tested for this review back in 2019, is no longer sold anywhere we could find, in Malaysia or elsewhere, when we checked on 30 September 2026. Armaggeddon's own site returns a "product not found" page for it and it does not turn up on Shopee under any search we tried. If you want the same switchable-resolution idea today, Armaggeddon's current model is the Pixxel+ PXP27-UXD, a 27-inch Fast IPS panel that swaps between 4K UHD and Full HD, RM1,319 at Armaggeddon's official Shopee store, checked 30 September 2026. It suits a budget gaming or work setup where one screen needs to do sharp desktop work and a fast panel for competitive games, not a dedicated colour-critical or content-creation monitor.

How We Tested This Review

The write-up below, the setup notes, the port count, the game tests and the performance findings, comes from a unit we physically tested in 2019: the Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite (EFX 27UHD SWITX). We are keeping that hands-on record because it is still accurate to the unit it describes. What we could not do in 2026 is retest that exact panel, because it is no longer on sale. Instead, on 30 September 2026 we checked Armaggeddon's own product catalogue and ran several Shopee Malaysia searches for the model name and its close variants to confirm it is genuinely gone, then found the closest current replacement in the same Pixxel+ line. Everything about that replacement below is checked from its live listing, not tested hands-on by us.

Armageddon Elite Pixxel+ Monitor Setup

Out of the box, we found the monitor easy to assemble and set up.

In terms of build, the monitor felt sturdy, especially for its low price point. Part of how it kept that price down is a simple design with minimal branding: the only logo is an Armaggeddon sticker. That may put off some gamers, but it did not bother us.

One thing that would have helped is adjustable height and a neck swivel for better angling. The monitor does support optional VESA mounting, sold separately, for anyone who wants more control over the angle or to hang it flat on a wall.

Given the monitor is 27 inches wide, thinner bezels would also help. Ours measured about 18mm even though the box stated 15mm.

How Many Connectivity Ports Does The Elite Pixxel+ Have?

A monitor is only as useful as the devices it can connect to. The Pixxel+ offered a decent set:

  • 1x DisplayPort (DP 1.4)
  • 3x HDMI ports (1x HDMI 2.0, 2x HDMI 1.4)
  • 1x AC power port
  • 1x 3.5mm headphone jack
Connectivity ports on the back of the Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite monitor: HDMI, DisplayPort and headphone jack

That makes it a good display purely as a screen or over HDMI. What it does not have is built-in speakers or a USB port to read files directly, the way a standard smart LED TV would.

Gaming on the Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite Monitor

Our team tested the monitor with the following setups and games:

PS4

  • God of War (PS4), 1080p, 60Hz

PS4 Pro

  • Batman Arkham Knight, 1080p, 60fps
  • Days Gone, 1080p, 60fps
  • Shadow of The Tomb Raider, 3840 x 2160, 30fps

PC (i7 3770k, Nvidia GTX 970)

  • Assassin's Creed Origins, 1440p, 120Hz
  • Counter-Strike, 1080p, 144Hz on lower settings

Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite Monitor Performance Test

Across our tests, the monitor had good sharpness but tended to produce grainy spots, and colours could look contrasty if not calibrated. The included manual was too simple for that job, so we had to fiddle with the OSD ourselves to get pleasant colours, though the OSD itself was not hard to navigate.

Some online reviewers reported tearing playing CS:GO at 120Hz; we did not run into that on our unit, though we did notice tearing while watching video. Worth noting: 120Hz is only available at Full HD 1080p, not at 4K UHD.

The 5ms response time was decent for the price, not outstanding. The one change that would have moved the needle most is a true native 120Hz instead of a 60Hz panel overclocked to mimic it, which is part of what kept the price this low. We also liked that it supported both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync, since G-Sync panels are usually pricier because the maker has to license an extra chip from NVIDIA.

Is the Armageddon Pixxel+ Elite Still Worth Buying in 2026?

The specific unit we tested, at its original RM1,199 Shopee price, was a genuinely good buy for anyone who wanted a 4K IPS panel and could not stretch to monitors priced two to ten times higher. That verdict does not carry over cleanly to 2026, because you can no longer buy that exact unit: we checked Armaggeddon's own catalogue and Shopee Malaysia on 30 September 2026 and it is gone from both. Anyone searching for it today should treat it as discontinued and look at what Armaggeddon sells now in the same switchable-resolution, budget 4K category instead.

Our current pick in the same Pixxel+ line is the PXP27-UXD, checked on 30 September 2026. We have not put this specific unit through the same week of gaming and calibration tests as the original Elite above; treat this as a checked listing, not the hands-on verdict the rest of this review gives. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Armageddon monitor good?

Based on our own 2019 test of the Pixxel+ Elite, yes for the price it launched at: good sharpness, decent 5ms response time, and G-Sync plus FreeSync support that budget monitors from bigger brands rarely include. The panel was not perfect (grainy spots, contrasty colours without calibration) but nothing that price could not excuse. Other Armaggeddon monitors we have covered, like the Pixxel+ XC27HD at RM736, get similar verdicts: legitimately good value for a budget gaming setup.

What are the best monitor brands in Malaysia?

For value gaming panels, Armaggeddon is a genuine local option, though Lowyat forum threads flag that build quality can vary between models and after-sales support is the brand's stronger point over long-term reliability. For a wider spread of budget to premium options, see our roundups of the best gaming monitors and best monitors overall in Malaysia, which cover ASUS, BenQ, Acer, Samsung and LG alongside local brands like Armaggeddon.

Which monitor does Elon Musk use?

This question shows up in searches near ours but has nothing to do with Armaggeddon. Photos from his White House office in 2025 showed a Samsung Odyssey G9, a 49-inch curved ultra-wide gaming monitor that retails for around USD1,799 (roughly RM8,000), a different class of product entirely from the budget 27-inch panel this review covers.

Is armageddon monitor good reddit?

We did not find a Reddit thread specifically reviewing this model, but forum discussion on Malaysian budget monitors (Lowyat Forum) is broadly consistent with our own test: Armaggeddon's panels are considered good value and after-sales service gets decent marks, with the caveat that build quality is inconsistent between units at this price point. If you want other buyers' experience before deciding, Lowyat's monitor sub-forum is a better source than Reddit for this brand specifically, since Armaggeddon sells mainly in Malaysia and Singapore.

Updated 30 September 2026: confirmed the originally reviewed Pixxel+ Elite (EFX 27UHD SWITX) is discontinued after checking Armaggeddon's catalogue and Shopee Malaysia, added a current-model buy panel for the Pixxel+ PXP27-UXD with a price checked the same day, and answered the questions people are actually searching alongside this monitor.
