If you have ever had a smartwatch die halfway through a weekend away from a plug, Amazfit's newest wearable is built around that exact problem. The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar, announced on 20 October, pairs a bright AMOLED screen with solar charging on both sides of the case, and it reaches Malaysia on 23 October at RM2,799.
Amazfit says it is the first AMOLED smartwatch to pull in solar energy from two surfaces: through the display on the front, and through a glass-ceramic back plate that normally sits against your wrist. That rear panel is the unusual part, and it is where the longer battery figures come from.

How the dual solar works
The watch starts from up to 25 days of typical battery life. Amazfit says three hours of daily sun at 50,000 lux, roughly bright midday conditions, stretches that to up to 34 days through the front panel alone. The rear panel has twice the collecting area of the front, so placing the watch face-down in the sun off your wrist, with a Solar Priority mode that drops it into an ultra-low-power state, is meant to recover more energy again.
The practical version: this is less about never charging and more about a safety margin. For someone deep into a multi-day trip, sunlight can bring a flat watch back far enough to show maps and a route, which is the use Amazfit puts front and centre. If running is your main event rather than the hiking, the brand's Amazfit Cheetah 2 Pro covers that ground instead.
Built for rough conditions
- 1.32-inch AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness
- Grade 5 titanium bezel and a sapphire crystal front
- 10 ATM water resistance, with recreational diving support to 50 metres
- 660 mAh battery, rated up to 41 hours in its most accurate GPS mode
- Built-in flashlight with a red-light option to help preserve night vision
Navigation is the other half of the pitch. The watch carries full-colour offline maps with downloadable contour and ski layers, turn-by-turn and waypoint routing, and a colour-coded elevation profile that shows climbs and descents ahead. A LiveShare feature can send your real-time location to family or teammates, and the Zepp app handles training and recovery data with no subscription attached.
Price and availability in Malaysia
The T-Rex Dual Solar goes on sale on 23 October 2026 at RM2,799, through Amazfit's official store and its channels on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok. As a launch offer, buying from Amazfit's official website adds a camping tent valued at around RM499, while Shopee, Lazada and TikTok purchases come with a Decathlon backpack instead. Both gifts are while stocks last.
Where it sits
At RM2,799 this is firmly expedition-watch territory, closer to a rugged flagship than an everyday fitness band. If your weekends rarely leave the city, a cheaper Amazfit will do more than you need. If you genuinely spend days away from a charger, the solar backup is the reason to look.
