Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smaller and lighter version of its Bluetooth tracker, but Malaysians hoping to clip one to their keys or luggage will have a long wait. The tracker was announced on 30 September 2026 in Seoul and goes on sale first in Korea on 7 October, with the United States and other markets, Malaysia among them, only getting it sometime in 2027.
What the Galaxy SmartTag3 does
The headline figure is battery life. Samsung says a single charge lasts up to 550 days, which it calls industry leading and which means most people would change the battery barely once every year and a half. The tag itself is more compact and lighter than before, so it is easier to attach to a bag, a pet collar or a set of keys without adding bulk.
Finding a lost item has been tightened up too. The SmartTag3 extends what Samsung calls Compass View, the arrow-based close-range guidance that points you to a tag, to a range of up to 60 metres using Bluetooth 6.0. It also pulls location updates faster through the Galaxy Find Network, the crowd-sourced web of nearby Galaxy phones that quietly report a tag's whereabouts.

It works with iPhones too
The most interesting change for anyone who does not live entirely inside Samsung's world is cross-OS support. The SmartTag3 works with both Galaxy and iOS devices, so an iPhone owner can use one, which is a notable shift given Samsung's trackers have historically needed a Galaxy phone. Samsung has also added Place Notification, a proactive alert that can tell you when a tagged item arrives at or leaves a set location, rather than waiting for you to notice it is missing. If you already live in the Galaxy ecosystem, it sits alongside tools like Samsung SmartThings and the health tracking on the Galaxy Watch.
Malaysia availability and price
This is the frustrating part. Samsung has confirmed only that the SmartTag3 reaches Korea on 7 October 2026, followed by the US and other markets in 2027, and it has not named a Malaysian launch date or a ringgit price. In other words, there is nothing to buy here yet, and nothing to pre-order. We will update this story if Samsung Malaysia confirms a local release. For now you can read the full specifications on the official Samsung Newsroom Malaysia page.
