Handheld gaming in Malaysia is about to get another high-end option, and this one arrives wrapped in nostalgia. ASUS Republic of Gamers has confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a special edition built to mark 20 years of the ROG brand, is coming to Malaysia for pre-order. The catch for now: the local price and the exact pre-order date are still to be announced.

What the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is
The X20 is a Windows 11 gaming handheld in the same family as the Xbox Ally line we broke down last year, so it boots straight into a controller-friendly Xbox interface while still running games from Steam, Game Pass, Epic and the rest. What sets this model apart is the look: a translucent black chassis with a gold-accented internal structure, a throwback to the see-through gadgets many older gamers remember, made to celebrate ROG's founding in 2006.
Under that shell sits the same class of hardware as the top Ally. It runs an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB SSD you can upgrade yourself. The bigger change is the screen: a 7.4-inch OLED panel that ROG calls its Nebula HDR display, with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400. The original Ally shipped with an LCD, so the move to OLED is the upgrade most buyers will notice first.
Other specs ROG has confirmed:
- 80Wh battery, running Windows 11 Home
- Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4
- USB4 with DisplayPort 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 support, plus a second USB-C port and a microSD Express card reader
- Xbox-style controls with impulse triggers, two full-size joysticks, HD haptics and two assignable back buttons

The AR glasses bundle
ROG is also selling the X20 as a bundle built for playing anywhere. It pairs the handheld with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case with a kickstand and 20th anniversary styling, a custom Pelican protector case and a 68-watt charger. The handheld and the glasses will also be sold on their own, for anyone who does not want the full set.
The glasses are the part worth a closer look. They plug into the X20 with a single USB-C cable and project what ROG describes as a 171-inch virtual screen at four metres, using a 240Hz micro-OLED display with audio tuned by Bose. Head tracking lets the picture follow your view or stay anchored in one place while you play.
Why it matters
Malaysia has quietly become a real market for these Windows handhelds, with the Ally going up against Valve's Steam Deck and Lenovo's Legion Go. A limited anniversary model with an OLED screen gives ROG a halo product to sit above the standard range, and the optional AR glasses lean into the "portable big screen" idea that rivals have not really matched here yet.
Malaysia availability and price
This is where the wait comes in. ROG has confirmed the X20, the XREAL R1 Edition 20 glasses and the bundle are all coming to Malaysia, but it has not shared a pre-order date or ringgit pricing yet, promising a full local announcement soon. For a sense of scale, the original ROG Xbox Ally range launched here last October from RM2,699 for the standard model and RM4,299 for the more powerful Ally X, so this anniversary edition is likely to sit at the premium end.
