This Merdeka season, Samsung Malaysia and HOKA are turning the daily walk into something you can win from. The two brands have opened the "Move Together with Malaysia" step challenge, and the entry price is movement most of us already do: 150,000 steps over about three weeks. Clear the target and there is an RM200 Samsung voucher waiting, with a HOKA cap on the line for the most creative finishers.

How the Samsung and HOKA step challenge works
The challenge runs from 26 August to 16 September 2026. Clock 150,000 steps inside that window and you become a Finisher. Spread across the full period, that works out to roughly 6,800 steps a day, an everyday target rather than an athletic one. Your morning walk, the commute, an evening run, a coffee run or choosing the stairs over the lift all count toward the total.
You do not need a Galaxy Watch to take part. The Samsung Health app on your phone tracks the steps for you, and your progress logs automatically under the app's "Together" page.
Why the challenge is worth a look
Step challenges live or die on how reachable the goal feels, and 150,000 steps over 22 days sits squarely within reach for anyone with a normal walking routine. There is no equipment to buy and no subscription: the tracking sits inside an app most Samsung phone owners already have. For readers who have been curious about wearables without committing, it also works as a soft on-ramp, since the reward only becomes useful if you keep moving.
What Finishers get
Every Finisher is entitled to an RM200 Samsung voucher that can go toward eligible Galaxy wearables, redeemable for up to two units between 26 August and 16 October 2026. If you have been weighing up a smartwatch, that voucher softens the price of two of Samsung's current models: the Galaxy Watch9, the everyday pick for most people, and the larger, tougher Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
On top of the voucher, 50 Finishers who answer a short question most creatively will each win a HOKA cap worth RM199. HOKA is the running-shoe brand lending its name to the campaign, so the caps are a nod to the runners chasing the higher step counts.
How to join
Joining takes a minute inside the Samsung Health app:
- Open Samsung Health and make sure you are signed in to your Samsung Account.
- Tap the three dots in the top-right corner, choose Promotion, then tap the "Move Together with Malaysia" banner. You can also tap "Join Now" on the challenge card on the Samsung Health home page.
- Walk your way to 150,000 steps between 26 August and 16 September 2026. Your progress records automatically under the "Together" page.
Samsung and HOKA have hinted this is the first of more activity between the two brands. For now, it is a low-effort way to put your Merdeka-season steps toward a discount on your next Galaxy wearable, or a HOKA cap if your answer stands out.
