Buying a new electric kettle or rice cooker in Malaysia usually means a trip to an electronics shop or an online order. From August 2026, it could be as simple as walking into the 99 Speedmart around the corner.
Midea has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 99 Speed Mart Sdn Bhd, the country's largest mini market chain, to sell a selection of its home appliances through the retailer's nationwide network. The agreement was signed on 29 July 2026 in Shah Alam, and it puts Midea products within reach of more than 3,100 outlets across the country.
Midea was represented at the signing by Mark Tam, managing director of Midea Malaysia, with Zeal Jiang, president of Midea Group's Asia Pacific region, as witness. 99 Speedmart was represented by chief operating officer Yong Eng Kwang, with founder and chief executive Lee Thiam Wah witnessing.

What the Midea and 99 Speedmart deal covers
From August 2026, shoppers at 99 Speedmart outlets will be able to pick up a range of Midea small home appliances alongside their usual groceries. The starting line-up is everyday kitchen and household items rather than large white goods.
- Blenders, including a glass-jar model
- Electric jug kettles, including a double-wall version
- Conventional rice cookers
- Table, stand and desktop circulation fans
- Bread and oven toasters
- A stick vacuum
- A stainless steel gas stove
Why the partnership matters
99 Speedmart built its business on being close to where people live, a point it makes with its "Near 'n Save" tagline. Stocking appliances on those shelves means a Malaysian who needs a replacement fan on a hot afternoon may no longer have to plan a separate shopping trip to find one.
For Midea, the deal widens its reach well beyond its own shops. The brand opened 18 Midea Brand Stores across Malaysia last year, and this agreement adds thousands of neighbourhood touchpoints on top of that network and its authorised dealers. It also feeds the company's regional "Power of One" plan, unveiled at its Asia Pacific dealer conference in Bali late last year, which ties its product, retail and customer efforts to one growth target.
The tie-up also marks a step for 99 Speedmart beyond the fast-moving groceries and household basics it is known for, moving it into higher-value home appliances that customers do not buy every week.
"As the country's largest mini market chain, we are always looking for ways to better serve the everyday needs of Malaysians," said Lee Thiam Wah, founder and chief executive of 99 Speed Mart.
The takeaway
The move does not change what a Midea kettle or fan costs, but it changes how easily you can find one. If your nearest shop is a 99 Speedmart, a small appliance is about to become a grab-and-go purchase rather than an errand.
