What the TerraMaster D8 Hybrid 2 offers
The TerraMaster D8 Hybrid 2 is an 8-bay direct-attached storage (DAS) enclosure that combines four 3.5-inch SATA drives (HDDs or SSDs) with four M.2 NVMe SSDs. That hybrid layout is the whole point: you get room for a large archive and a set of fast drives for the files you are actively working on, without needing two separate devices. Depending on how you fill it, total capacity reaches up to 152TB (four 30TB hard drives plus four 8TB NVMe SSDs).
It connects over USB 3.2 Gen 2 with 10Gbps of bandwidth. TerraMaster quotes read speeds of up to 1020MB/s from a single NVMe SSD, while a four-drive hard disk array can reach up to 980MB/s depending on the RAID setup. In practical terms, the company says a 5GB HD movie can move across in around five seconds, which is the kind of margin that adds up over a long editing day.
Built for hybrid workflows
The design leans into hot and cold data tiering: keep frequently used "hot" files on the NVMe drives for speed, and park "cold" archives on the hard drives where cost per terabyte is far lower. A new feature called TPM (TerraMaster Power Management) is meant to improve energy efficiency, add operational safety and speed up drive wake times. The chassis has a front-mounted power button, redesigned airflow, and Push-Lock tool-free trays so drives slot in without a screwdriver. M.2 SSDs install under a side sliding cover with hand-tightened screws, and cooling runs through a temperature-controlled fluid dynamic bearing fan rated for more than 50,000 hours.
Compatibility and backup
The unit is plug-and-play with no drivers, and works across macOS, Windows, Linux and NAS systems, reading NTFS, APFS, EXT4, FAT32 and exFAT. It uses USB Type-C and is compatible with USB 3.0 through 3.2 as well as Thunderbolt 3, 4 and 5. For backups, TerraMaster bundles its TPC Backupper software on Windows, while Mac users can point Time Machine at it. NAS owners can run it as a high-capacity expansion box for TerraMaster's TOS 5 and TOS 6, with storage pools, RAID and snapshots, and it also plays with Windows Server, Linux, Proxmox, TrueNAS and Unraid.

The D8 Hybrid 2 is on sale now for GBP 299.99 on Amazon UK and USD 299.99 on Amazon USA, where it was listed at USD 239.99 with a 20% coupon at launch, as well as directly from TerraMaster's website. TerraMaster is also running a Summer Sale from 21 to 31 July with up to 25% off a range of storage products. Malaysian pricing has not been confirmed, so local buyers would be looking at importing through Amazon or ordering from TerraMaster directly.
