The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the most interesting phone Samsung launched tonight, and not only because of the redesign. In Malaysia it starts at RM7,299, which is RM500 below where the Galaxy Z Fold7 started last year. A new flagship foldable arriving cheaper than the one it replaces is rare enough to lead with.

The Fold7 opened at RM7,799 in 2025. The Fold8 undercuts it by RM500 at the entry point, while sitting below the new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which starts at RM8,099.
A wider, lighter Fold

Samsung reshaped this one. The main screen is a 7.6 inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 1,848 x 2,448 and 403ppi, a wider and squarer shape than the Fold7's. The cover screen is 5.5 inch WUXGA+ at 1,248 x 1,972 and 428ppi. Both run an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz with Vision Booster, and Samsung quotes peak brightness up to 3,000 nits with a low reflection finish.
Folded it is 81.9 x 123.9 x 9.7mm, open it is 4.5mm thick, and it weighs 201g. That makes it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold Samsung has released.
Flex Titanium and the crease

The new part is structural. Samsung has introduced what it calls Flex Titanium, a display structure combining a titanium alloy film with an enhanced titanium plate. The company says it reduces how visible the crease becomes over time and makes the phone smoother to open. That is a durability claim about months of use, so it is one to revisit in the review rather than accept on day one.
Cameras

The Fold8 carries a dual 50MP rear camera. The wide has dual pixel autofocus, optical stabilisation, an F1.8 aperture and 2x optical quality zoom. The ultra wide is 50MP at F1.9 covering 120 degrees. Both the cover camera and the inner camera are 10MP.
If you want a telephoto lens, that is the Fold8 Ultra's 10MP 3x, and it is one of the clearest reasons to spend the extra.
Chip, battery and the rest
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, with 12GB of memory on the 256GB and 512GB models and 16GB on the 1TB. The battery is 4,800mAh typical with fast wireless charging at 20W and Wireless PowerShare. It is IP48 rated and ships on Android 17 with One UI 9.
