Shopee Brings Affiliate Links to Instagram for Creators

A Reel or Feed post recommending a Shopee product can now earn creators a commission.

Malaysian content creators have a new way to earn from their posts. Shopee and Meta have opened up affiliate links on Instagram, so a product recommendation in a Reel or Feed post can now turn into commission.

What Shopee and Meta announced

On 6 July 2026, Shopee and Meta announced the launch of affiliate partnerships on Instagram for creators across Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Brazil. Eligible creators can connect their Shopee affiliate account to Instagram, browse Shopee’s affiliate products, and share recommendations through Reels and Feed content. When a viewer completes a qualifying purchase on Shopee, the creator earns a commission. The move builds on Shopee’s existing affiliate partnerships on Facebook.

Why it matters for creators

For Malaysia’s creator economy, this closes a gap. Instagram is where a lot of product discovery already happens, but turning that into trackable sales usually meant sending followers off-platform to a link in bio or a separate app. Native affiliate links tie the recommendation and the purchase together, which is simpler for creators and cleaner for tracking. It also puts Shopee’s affiliate program in front of Instagram’s audience, not only Facebook’s.

Social commerce, where people buy based on what creators post, has been one of the steadier growth stories in Southeast Asian e-commerce, and platforms have been working to shorten the path from a post to a checkout. Shopee already runs affiliate mechanics across its own app and Facebook, so extending to Instagram Reels and Feed meets creators where a large share of their audience already scrolls.

How it works and where it applies

The flow is straightforward: connect a Shopee affiliate account to Instagram, find affiliate products, share them via Reels or Feed, and earn on qualifying purchases. The rollout covers creators across Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Brazil, which includes Malaysia.

Shopee has not detailed commission rates or the full eligibility criteria in the announcement, so creators will want to check the terms in their Shopee affiliate dashboard. If you already post product recommendations on Instagram, though, this makes it easier to get paid for the ones that convert, without pulling followers off the app.
