ShopeePay Travel eSIM: what you get
Announced on 11 June 2026, the new feature lets users purchase and activate a Travel eSIM directly within the app, in just a few taps. Plans offer flexible usage of up to 31 days, which covers a weekend getaway as comfortably as a month-long stay, and the RM3.50 starting price makes it cheap to try on a short trip.
How to buy and activate one
- Step 1: On the ShopeePay app homepage, tap "View All" or go to "Bills & Payment", then select "eSIM".
- Step 2: Choose your destination, pick your preferred data amount (GB) and number of travel days, then tap confirm to complete the purchase.
- Step 3: To activate, go to "History", select your order and tap "Activate eSIM Now". Activation works three ways: direct activation, QR code, or manual setup.
Why this matters for Malaysian travellers
eSIMs have quietly become the practical alternative to hunting down a physical tourist SIM or paying for daily roaming passes. There is no card to swap, nothing to collect at the airport, and your Malaysian number stays active for banking TACs while you use local data abroad. Putting that inside an e-wallet many Malaysians already use for daily payments removes one more app, and one more checkout, from the pre-flight routine.
The usual caveat applies: your phone needs to support eSIM in the first place, so it is worth checking your device settings before counting on it for a trip.
Part of a bigger travel play
The Travel eSIM is the newest addition to the growing set of travel services inside the ShopeePay app. Users can also buy travel insurance and book hotels and flights, with hotel options across destinations such as Tokyo, Beijing and Jakarta, plus staycation choices within Malaysia. ShopeePay sits under Monee, the digital financial services arm of Sea, the same group behind the wider Shopee ecosystem.
Availability

At RM3.50 to start, it is an easy option to test on a short hop across the border before trusting it with a longer holiday.
