Liquid Glass Look

Lke the iOS26, macOS Tahoe gets an overhaul with the new Liquid Glass” design. This new design highlights certain aspects of macOS such as the Dock, sidebars, and toolbars to have even greater focus on a user’s content.

Details such as the menu bar now being completely transparent, means the display will look even larger. You'll also get better customisation on what appears in the menu bar and Control Center, along with how they’re laid out. Basically, this new design unlocks more personalization on the Mac.

More Continuity with Phone App

Continuity between phone and computer just got a lot more seamless. Now, the Phone app has arrived on Mac thanks to Continuity, where you can now directly relay your calls from your nearby iPhone.

The Phone app on Mac also has the familiar features of the Phone app on iPhone — including Recents, Favorites, and Voicemails — and the latest updates like Call Screening and Hold Assist.

Live Activities To Curate Active Apps

Live Activities from your nearby iPhone will now appear in the menu bar on your Mac so you can stay on top of things happening in real time.

Things like an upcoming Grab ride, flight, or live sports score will show up here. And when you click on a Live Activity, the app opens in iPhone Mirroring to show more information.

Spotlight Searches

It'll now be much easier and expansive to use Spotlight, the central place to search for things on Mac.

During a search, all results — including files, folders, events, apps, messages, and more — are now listed together and ranked intelligently based on relevance. This new filtering options will narrow searches to exactly what you want, whether it's a PDF or Mail messages.

Spotlight can also surface results for documents stored on third-party cloud drives.

Taking Action on Spotlight

Furthermore, you'll be able to use Spotlight to carry out hundreds of actions — like sending an email, creating a note, or playing a podcast — without jumping between apps.

Apple Intelligence: Live Translation

In Messages, you can also enjoy the likes of Live Translation to automatically translate messages. Just type in your preferred language to the recipient—and they vice versa—each text sent between you both will be instantly translated.

If using FaceTime, you can follow along with translated live captions while still hearing the speaker’s voice. And if you are on a call in the Phone app, yours and your recipient's words are translated as you speak.

This is enabled by Apple-built models that run entirely on device, so your conversations stay private.

Apple Intelligence: Shortcuts

You can access and create shortcuts that are more powerful than ever, including summarizing text with Writing Tools and creating images with Image Playground.

Additionally, you can also run shortcuts automatically on macOS, such as at a specific time of day, or when you do a specific set of tasks to activate it.

Updates to Genmoji and Image Playground

macOS Tahoe will also offer new ways to create Genmoji, such as starting with existing emoji and descriptions, modify personal attributes and even select expressions based on the moment.

This is also the same with Image Playground, and you can tap into brand-new styles with ChatGPT, like an oil painting style or vector art.

Apple Intelligence will be able to help you review an email, website, note, or other content on Mac and find the most relevant action items to them. You can also automatically categorize Reminders into sections to make them more manageable.

New Apple Games App

Like iOS 26, MacOS Tahoe is getting a new Apple Games app too, where players gets a home for all their games, making it easier to jump back into favorites, discover new games, and play with friends in whole new ways.

Just like a little Steam app, through Game Overlay, you can conveniently adjust your system settings, chat with friends, or invite them to play, all without having to leave their game.

You'll be able to turn on Low Power Mode, which extends gaming sessions and maximizes playtime on battery.
