Design & Display Quality

The most noticeable feature of the phones are its butterfly effect back overs which refreact a design when placed in different angles and lighting. They are also cool to the touch and feels very lightweight.

OPPO has fit an Aerospace-grade Aluminium frame to the Reno13 and Reno13 Pro for superior durability. This special one-of-a-kind frame is also able to withstand yield strength 200% better than plastic frames. What we like is that while the main back feels slippery, the side frames had a slight matte-feel to them which helps with additional grip, which is a very nice touch for ergonomic use. Moreover, the cover hardly allows for fingerprints to linger.

While the OPPO Reno13 Pro and Reno13 looks the same from afar, putting them both aside, the Reno13 Pro is a little bigger, which is a given due to its larger 6.83-inch screen, compared to the Reno13's 6.59-inch screen.

Meanwhile, both the Reno13 Pro and Reno13 features an AMOLED display with FHD support and up to 120Hz refresh rate for an immersive viewing experience, ideal for media consumption. The difference is subtle, with the Reno13 Pro having better contrast and brightness than the Reno13.

Performance

Both the Reno13 Pro and Reno13 are equipped with Dimensity 8350 chipsets which is gaming-focused to deliver smoother gaming experiences and advanced AI capabilities. Its high threshold makes it suitable for most app processing including and especially high-intensity games like Mobile Legends Bang Bang.

Our choice of game, Ragnarok Origins Mobile, initially warmed up the phones at start up. A minute into the game (at the recommended "Good" setting) and the phones kicked in the AI HyperBoost, which controls the thermal setting of the phone, ensuring comfortable handling of the phones.

OPPO's lab stats shared that MOBA games on the Reno13 Pro 5G could run for up to 8 hours lag-free and in an acceptable temperature, on 60FPS in HD quality.

A minute after the AI HyperBoost, both phones became cool (hardly warm) to the touch for a consistent 20 minutes play. We soon switched the game to the highest setting ("Best"). For another 20 minutes, the two Reno13 series phones only felt warm to the touch, similar to rubbing your hands together to create warmth. In terms of graphics quality, both the Reno13 Pro and Reno13 suffered visible yet very little lag.

Needless to say, the phones performed very well and up to our expectations.

Camera

The Reno13 Pro features a versatile 50MP triple-camera setup, whereas the Reno13 features a 50MP dual-camera setup. Both phones are capable of underwater photography. Specifications below for everyone's quick reference:

  • OPPO Reno13 Pro: Triple rear setup (50MP + 50MP + 8MP) with 50MP front camera
  • OPPO Reno13: Dual rear setup (50MP + 8MP) with 50MP front camera

Although both phones use a main 50MP shooter, the addition of the 50MP telephoto on the Reno13 Pro gives a lot more depth and colour to its photos as compared to the Reno13.

Clarity is fairly good on both phones, but the Reno13 Pro takes the cake for producing higher quality photos with a touch of dramatic flair. Moreover, saturation on the Reno13 Pro are more enhanced than the ones on Reno13.

We also liked the few but helpful AI photo editors (Enhance clarity, AI reaser, Unblur and Remove reflection). Below is a photo edited with the Remove reflection feature.

Underwater shots are also fairly clear with a little distortion to the photo subjects. All you have to do is make sure your camera goes into underwater mode. You will be using the side buttons to take photo underwater rather than the touch screen.

When you're done, simply hold down the power button at the side of the phone to exit the mode, and the phone will carry out a vibrating operation to expel any excess water.

Shout-out Features: Fast Charging & Share To iPhone

Both phones feature a high battery capacity at 5450mAh for the Reno13, and 5800mAh for the Reno13 Pro. They both hold a combination of 80W wired and 50W wireless charging for very quick charging, supercharged by OPPO's own SUPERVOOCTM that lets you charge the phone quickly in a short amount of time. This means you will hardly need to wait for over 30 minutes to get a full charge.

Meanwhile, as far as we've tested, the battery goes down on an average of 1% per 5-minutes of gaming with no background apps. This varies from user to user experience.

If you're wanting one of the best features to quickly get the Reno13 series, they are one of the first few Androids available with the Share to iPhone feature. All iPhone users need to do is download the OPPO Share app to enjoysharing between the two platform operating systems (OS)!

Conclusion

The OPPO Reno13 Pro is priced at RM2,999, and the Reno13 at RM2,599. With those prices, they are both a compelling package with their high-end specifications and features, with good performance, nice practical camera capabilities and fast charging. If we have a quip with the series, we are not big fans of the OPPO operating system, as intuitive user experience is not the best when navigating between apps. Still, the hardware perks you get to enjoy with the series beats those little hiccups.

Pros:

  • Unique and classic design
  • Good camera
  • Fair price

Cons:

  • OS is not the best user interface
