Apple has officially rolled out Apple Intelligence, its new AI-powered personal assistant system, across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Announced earlier this year at WWDC24, the system is accessible through a free update to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

With Apple Intelligence, Apple has introduced smarter writing tools designed for everyday use, seamlessly integrated across apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and even third-party apps.

These tools offer a variety of functions: the Rewrite feature allows you to tweak phrasing, adjust tone, or change your writing style to ensure clarity and professionalism. The Proofread function provides grammar suggestions, sentence improvements, and word choice adjustments, all accompanied by clear explanations. Meanwhile, the Summarise tool condenses lengthy texts into more digestible formats, whether as paragraphs, bullet points, or tables.

Besides that, Siri has also become more conversational and flexible, with enhanced capabilities. You can now seamlessly switch between typing and speaking to Siri without any interruptions.

Additionally, Siri’s improved understanding of context allows it to maintain smoother conversations across multiple queries. With expanded product knowledge, Siri is now better equipped to answer questions about device features and settings.

Apart from that, the Photos app has also been upgraded to be even more intuitive, with new search and editing capabilities. You can conduct natural language searches, finding specific items or scenes in photos and videos simply by describing them. The new Clean Up tool enables easy removal of unwanted objects from images. You can also create movies by typing descriptions, with Apple Intelligence assembling photos and videos into a cohesive storyline.

To reduce clutter and improve focus, Apple has introduced tools for prioritizing notifications and emails. The Priority Messages feature highlights urgent emails at the top of the inbox, while Notification Summaries condense lengthy notifications on the Lock Screen. For quicker communication, Smart Reply generates responses to emails and messages for you on the fly.

On top of all this, Apple Intelligence is built with a strong emphasis on privacy. On-device processing keeps user data secure, while Private Cloud Compute adds privacy when accessing cloud-based models. The integration of ChatGPT is optional and comes with additional privacy protections, such as IP obscuration, ensuring a privacy-first AI experience.

What’s Next for Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence is now available as a free software update for iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, iPad models with A17 Pro or M1, and Mac with M1 or newer. Expanded language support is expected throughout 2024, starting with English localisation updates in December.
