Just last week, Samsung held the 2024 Southeast Asia Tech Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand from April 22 - 24, where they showcased their cutting-edge 2024 lineup featuring AI-powered TVs and screens that truly revolutionized the viewing experience.
A little backstory; Samsung’s global Tech Seminar sessions started in 2012 and have been integral to Samsung’s “Screens Everywhere, Screens For All” vision, presenting innovative and industry-leading viewing experiences.
We were honoured to be invited along to witness Samsung’s new TV offerings, and here’s what we learned!
2024 Neo QLED 8K Lineup: Smarter Than Smart; It’s AI!
This year, the star of the show is the 2024 Neo QLED 8K lineup, featuring the revolutionary NQ8 AI Gen3 Processor. This powerful processor boasts 512 neural networks, eight times more than its predecessor, enabling a vivid and precise picture quality. And plus, it has AI capabilities; the only TV lineup in Malaysia offering such advanced AI capabilities, in fact.
But why does a TV need AI, and how would it help, you ask?
Samsung's Neo QLED 8K TVs, particularly the 85QN900D and QN800 models, feature the revolutionary AI Upscaling Pro feature. This allows the TV to transform low-resolution content into stunning 8K visuals with unprecedented clarity—up to eight times better than previous models!
We were able to see these upscaling features in real time ourselves. The colours were significantly brighter and more vibrant despite the source input being less than 8K quality. The AI really does a great job of improving picture quality, no matter the quality of your source input.
Moreover, the AI Picture Quality in the Neo QLED 8K introduces the AI Motion Enhancer Pro, a game-changing feature for sports and action movie enthusiasts. This technology uses deep learning to track fast-moving objects with incredible precision.
During the seminar, we were shown two scenarios of moving objects: one with a scrolling news ticker and the other with a football game. Without the AI Motion Enhancer Pro, the text on the ticker and football will flicker and distort, but the AI Enhancer makes both moving objects mobile and easier to see.
In addition to that, the AI Energy Mode intelligently adjusts the TV’s brightness based on ambient lighting and the content being viewed, optimising energy usage without compromising on quality. The newly enhanced Active Voice Amplifier Pro, part of the AI Sound suite, isolates voices from background noise, ensuring that dialogue is always clear, even in noisy environments.
Enhanced Samsung OLED Technology: Seeing Is Believing
Samsung's OLED technology has also received significant upgrades in 2024. Powered by the NQ4 AI Gen2 Processor, this TV lineup upscales content to stunning 4K resolution and features OLED Glare Free technology, certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL).
Samsung has also introduced Glare-Free OLED technology in the OLED TV lineup that minimises reflections and maximises immersion. These TVs, especially the S95D model, also boast a 20% increase in brightness over other OLED TVs.
Mid-day movie time? No longer a problem!
Besides that, the OLED HDR Pro feature ensures each pixel is precisely controlled to achieve peak brightness and deeper blacks for a visual experience that is as dramatic as it is vibrant. It’s a bit hard to capture this on camera, but just trust me, the colours are much more distinct in person.
Bonus: Music Frame
Enough about TVs; let's get into sound. During the seminar, Samsung also showed us a very unique sound system: the Music Frame!
Remember The Frame TV from last year? Well, Samsung has launched yet another personalisable and customisable tech device that also allows you to showcase your favourite art.
The Music Frame is a frame-shaped speaker that does two jobs at once: a picture frame and a speaker! It can be hung up on your walls for a discrete yet eye-catching sound system. The image in the Music Frame can be replaced with just about anything you want, adding a touch of elegance and personality to your TV setup!
The Music Frame supports Q-Symphony technology, which synchronizes audio across Samsung's TV lineup for an enveloping sound experience. Additionally, the group play feature allows the connection of up to two Music Frames to a TV, effectively turning any home into a personal cinema with state-of-the-art sound.
The 2024 Southeast Asia Tech Seminar in Bangkok was truly eye-opening, especially since we got to witness Samsung’s newest AI TV lineup in person. We really can’t wait to see what else Samsung has up its sleeve!
