Road Tax & Driving License Going Digital Starting Today - Malaysia 2023

Goodbye, flimsy road tax stickers!

Malaysian Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, has announced today that private vehicle owners will no longer need to carry their physical driving license or display their Malaysian Vehicle Licence (LKM, more commonly known as road tax).

These two documents will be made available on the MyJPJ app instead.

This move, along with the announcement of online renewal and application last month, is part of the Transport Ministry’s efforts to digitalise JPJ’s core services. In conjunction with this announcement, Section 20 of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), which says that your LKM has to be clearly displayed on your vehicle’s dashboard, will no longer be enforced.

All private motorists will be able to find their e-LKM (road tax) and e-LMM (driving license) via the MyJPJ app or the JPJ public portal, which is available on Google Play Store, App Store, and Huawei App Gallery. You can show the app or a screenshot of your documents when required.

Physical driving licenses and road tax will still be accepted as of the time of writing.

Despite this, vehicles registered for public use like e-hailing services and company services will not be subject to this change. They will still need to obtain and carry these physical documents for now.
