Apple Unveils The Mac mini: Compact, Powerful, and More Affordable Than Ever

The versatile desktop is now powered by Apple's latest M2 and M2 Pro chips

Apple has just revealed the brand-new compact and versatile Mac mini is now supercharged by the industry's next-gen M2 and M2 Pro. At a relatively lower price compared to the standard Mac, the release of the Mac mini also marks the end of the Intel variants.

With a starting price of RM2,499, the Mac mini is even more powerful, capable, and affordable with the M2 chip. The new M2 Pro chip brings pro-level performance to Mac mini for the first time with support for up to two displays on the M2 model and up to three displays on the M2 Pro model, as well as faster performance, more unified memory, and advanced connectivity.

The M2 and M2 Pro chips will bring a faster next-generation CPU and GPU, with the M2 variant featuring an 8-core CPU with four high-performance and four high-efficiency cores along with a 10-core GPU. Meanwhile, the M2 Pro brings pro-level performance to the Mac mini for the first time. Powered by up to a 12-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, along with up to a 19-core GPU, the M2 Pro has 200GB/s of memory bandwidth and supports up to 32GB of memory.

Delivering extraordinary performance and industry-leading power efficiency, you will now be able to take your productivity and creativity to new heights when using a Mac mini with a Studio Display and various Magic accessories, as well as the streamlined and powerful macOS Ventura. 

Additionally, the MacBook Pro models now feature enhanced network connectivity. For quicker wireless connections, Wi-Fi 6E support is available, and HDMI has been upgraded to the 2.1 standard, allowing for resolutions of up to 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 240Hz. 

Local Pricing and Availability

As of now, we don't have any information about when the new Mac Mini will be released in Malaysia, but we do know how much it will cost. The entry-level Apple Mac Mini, which features an M2 processor, 8GB of memory, and 256GB of storage, is now only RM2,499 (down from RM2,999 for the M1-powered Mac Mini). Another option is the M2 Pro-powered Mac Mini, which starts at RM5,599 for a configuration with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD.
