In a world where technology is advancing faster than ever before, dual screens are no longer a luxury. Most workplaces have a dual-screen setup as a standard configuration because it helps maintain focus and optimises productivity. The setup is also popular in work from home settings. Here are more reasons to convince yourself to get a second screen in your WFH setup.
Productivity & Efficiency
Multitasking is easier if you have more than one teeny tiny screen to work with. With a dual-screen setup, you get more screen space so that you can look at more than one thing at a time. To add, cross-referencing is easier when you don’t have to keep changing windows or sift through hundreds of tabs just to find the right one.
If you need to transfer data from one file to another, dragging and dropping the information from one screen to another is much faster than having to navigate through different windows on the same screen. You can also take notes while having a Zoom call, follow a tutorial without interruptions, have multiple files open… and the list goes on.
Bigger Screens
As laptop screens get smaller and smaller in the name of portability, sometimes you just need that extra screen space to have a better look at what you’re working on. Connecting your laptop to another monitor is the most cost-effective way to see the bigger picture, so to speak. Whether you need a more detailed gander at an image or an expansive view of a complicated spreadsheet, a second screen will help.
Work hard, play hard (but maybe not at the same time)
Dual screens don’t just benefit the workspace; even when you’re gaming, a second, bigger screen makes all the difference. If you’re live-streaming your gaming experience, then a dual-screen setup is essential since it allows you to interact with your audience without interrupting your gameplay.
On the downside, monitors can be clunky and useless once it’s disconnected from your computer. Moreover, hooking up another screen to your computer means more cables and less freedom since you’re essentially hooked to the monitor and, often, a wall socket.
