As we’ve mentioned earlier, HUAWEI has always been dedicated to the development of their laptop lines year on year, bringing us reasonable powerhouses.
Their lineups are generally solid and of good quality with satisfactory performances for everyone. In fact, several have been rated high on lists of the best laptops overall.
Released this year in 2021, the MateBook 14s has been praised by tech enthusiasts around the world. It is generally known as an all-rounder performance-driven laptop that caters to business professionals for a better user experience.

How to Optimise Productivity with the HUAWEI MateBook 14s
Everything from the build to the internal hardware specs sheet looks great on the HUAWEI MateBook 14s, and we will start with its gorgeous screen.
90Hz, touch-enabled screen:
The 14-inch screen-size MateBook 14s sports a 2.5K High Definition HUAWEI FullViewDisplay that has a 100% sRGB colour gamut.
With a 90% Screen-to-body ratio and 3:2 Screen Display Ratio, you can comfortably view crisp images and produce work on the HUAWEI MateBook 14s. The screen also has smart Brightness Adjustment as well as Dual Eye Comfort certifications (TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light [Hardware Solution] & flicker-free) for extended use.
Speaking of which, the MateBook 14s is also the first laptop by HUAWEI to feature a screen that has 90Hz High Refresh Rate support.
An amazing feature about the 90Hz refresh rate support is that the HUAWEI MateBook 14s can auto-detect and adjust itself to run the best refresh rate according to your activity. Of course, you can deactivate it to better conserve battery too.
Not forgetting; you can feel the change in speed of productivity as the MateBook 14s’ screen is touch-enabled.
This is very useful for transferring items within the screen easily, especially between the MateBook 14s and HUAWEI phones which we will touch on next. It’s also very handy for commands like zooming in and out of pages as well as taking screenshots with finger gestures.
First laptop to support mobile apps - Mobile App Engine:
As mentioned; the HUAWEI MateBook 14s offers a boon in productivity over other competitors thanks to its Multi-Screen Collaboration feature. You basically get to use mobile apps on your computer screen officially.
To first establish a connection between the MateBook 14s and our nova 9, we had to place the back of the phone onto the touchpad of the MateBook 14s. A notification will pop up and prompt the activation on the phone. From there, you should see your HUAWEI phone’s screen mirrored onto the MateBook 14s.
We particularly enjoyed HUAWEI Share, which lets you transfer the likes of images and files between HUAWEI devices. So you can directly transfer from the mirrored phone screen to the laptop’s desktop screen, and the same goes for the opposite. This is also possible when you drag images from the mirrored phone screen’s album directly into the MateBook 14s’ editing software like Photoshop.
Another feature we have to talk about is the (beta-version) Mobile App Engine support on the MateBook 14s.
This feature lets you use mobile apps such as games on the MateBook 14s, and run them like how you would on a phone with the MateBook 14s’ touch-enabled screen. You can play games like FreeFire on the laptop’s bigger screen.
To activate this feature is pretty easy as well. Just open the PC manager on the MateBook 14s, then choose to download AppGallery” and install it. From there, search up and install any applications that you want.
Overall Performance & Battery Life:
Our HUAWEI MateBook 14s unit comes with an Intel Evo Core i7-11370H, coupled with the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics.
For those who aren’t familiar, laptops branded with Intel Evo certification are certified and tested to be platform-based computers by Intel themselves. These laptops are able to perform certain tasks faster than general, such as charging faster, getting up to 20% more battery life, and even performing tasks much faster too.
In our experience, the MateBook 14s easily triumphs over complex graphic designing work.
What makes it even greater is that afterwards, we can drag the image back to the phone’s multi-collaboration screen, then access social media on the aforementioned screen and upload it. These are all without needing to touch the actual phone at all.
Also, another amazing feature is that we could receive calls with that same mirrored screen of our nova 9 on the desktop.
Earlier, we mentioned being able to play games with the Mobile App Engine feature. Because it was still in beta-testing, we tried playing the simplest game available (Worms Zone). And what do you know, the game felt fluid, as if it was built simply to be played on the MateBook 14s.
Not forgetting about battery life; the HUAWEI MateBook 14s comes with a super capacity 60-watt hour battery brick and supports 90W quick charging. With productivity tasks, the 11-hour battery life was quite satisfactory.
All in all, the seamless connectivity and continuation between our HUAWEI nova 9 and the MateBook 14s were stable and smooth. The connectivity between the HUAWEI nova 9 and the MateBook 14s are by far one of the most exciting technologies that we have seen this year.
