We’ve all been there, and it’s not just once but several times. A phone becoming hot is actually a case of it suffering from overheating issues. And it doesn’t matter whether you are using an entry-level, mid-range or high-end smartphone with 8GB of RAM.

So, here’s the big question: What makes a phone overheat? Well, below are a few reasons.
Reason #1: You Can’t Stop Gaming
Like, a lot. Or more specifically, playing mobile games for several hours nonstop. This can burden both your phone’s CPU and GPU. And it is especially true for graphics-intensive mobile games like “PUBG Mobile”, “Asphalt 9: Legends” and “ARK: Survival Evolved”.

Reason #2: You’re Watching Movies Or Videos For A Long Time
Just like gaming for long hours, your phone will overheat if you stream movies or videos continuously without letting it take a break. Not only are you causing the CPU and GPU to work overtime but also your phone screen. The latter is pushed to overwork further if you maintain a high level of brightness consistently.

Reason #3: There Are Too Many Apps Running At Once
The typical phone user is likely to run more than one app at the same time. That includes your email, social media and browser apps.
All of them running at once can cause your phone to overheat. It is because the more apps you have running in the background, the more your phone has to upkeep its performance to run everything smoothly. This ultimately puts a strain on both the processor and battery life.

Reason #4: Your Phone Is Infected With Malware
Well, this doesn’t sound good. But FYI; a Malware virus can compromise your phone by draining its power, causing the device to work overtime. Moreover, other unfavourable activities caused by Malware include spying on the user’s activity and stealing sensitive data such as credit card details.

Tips To Cool Down Your Hot Phone
It’s no doubt that phones and heat are eternally sworn enemies. Luckily, there are ways for you to cool down your mobile device.
i) Turn Off Unused Apps
All unused apps that you have left running in the background, namely GPS and Bluetooth, are forcing your phone to overwork. So to prevent your device from overheating, turn them off if they are not being used.

ii) Turn On The Airplane Mode
See that Airplane icon on your phone? Turning that function on lets your phone relax as it will disable connectivity functions like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth which actually consumes a lot of energy.

iii) Keep Your Apps Up To Date
There are obvious reasons why you should update your apps regularly. One of them is tackling bug fixes, which can improve your phone’s efficiency and thus, prevent it from overheating.

iv) Reduce Screen Brightness
Setting your phone’s brightness level all the way to the maximum would consume even more battery. If possible, have it at an optimal level of 50%. Better yet, enable the automatic brightness feature to help minimise power consumption for different lighting situations.
