Not trying to impress you users, but here’s a prime example that you don’t need to spend a fortune on a big TV set. We’re talking about this whopping 55-inch 4K UHD LED Smart Android TV from TCL, which only costs under the RM 3,000 price range.

Start with its design - it sports a sleek metallic casing that accentuates the elegant look of this TCL television set. The ultra-slim bezel look is a bonus as well, giving you a wider screen-to-body ratio for an immersive full-screen experience.

At the bottom is a trio of aluminium legs a.k.a. base stand for you to easily prop up the TV on a cabinet or tabletop. Screws are bundled all together, where you can have the legs all tightened into places. It may be scary to rely on the small and slim base stand as if they will break supporting such a sizable TV set. Fortunately, the stand is quite solid.

The TCL 55” P8S model also includes VESA at the back where you can have it mounted against the wall. Features-wise, it boasts a stunning 4K UHD display that offers crisp picture quality while the integrated Dolby Audio surround sound is good enough for its price point.

However, those who are nitpicking about the audio quality might be disappointed with its average low frequencies, particularly when it comes to spoken dialogues. You would probably need an external soundbar for clearer audio when watching TV shows.

The TCL 55” P8S model includes an Android TV function that utilises a smoother 9.0 operating system and easily access the likes of Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. It has the benefit of HDR10+ technology as well, which provides better brightness and contrast as well as vibrant colours and deep blacks on the screen.

Other highlights on the TCL 55” P8S model includes a Sports Mode optimisation for more lifelike images and sound, a built-in Bluetooth functionality as well as support for both HDMI and USB 2.0 for multiple connectivity purposes. There’s also a bundled remote that has all the standard functions and even a dedicated Netflix button.

Is a 55-inch TV too big for you? Here’s a medium-sized TCL S6800 model, which sports a 40-inch LED screen and other value-for-money features. And this is all at an affordable price point below RM 1,000. You’d probably want to know its notable setback which is its older 8.0 Oreo operating system, which tends to suffer from sluggish performance. 

Otherwise, the TCL 40” S6800 manages to offset its shortcomings with plenty of features to look forward to. This includes a Full HD display with HDR technology for enhanced colour reproduction as well as better contrast and image details. There’s also the Micro Dimming technology that optimises all four vital areas: brightness, colours, contrast and darkness.

While the built-in Dolby 5.1 surround sound isn’t particularly earth-shattering but it’s decent enough for its price. Fans of live-action sports events are in for a treat though; it has an optimised Sports Mode to give you that feeling of being at the event.

A cool feature to this TV is its smart volume function, which will minimise sudden sound variations such as the audio differences between a TV programme and commercial break. Now, this is something you don’t mind in similar competing products!

That means getting razor-sharp images and details than conventional television displays. Not to mention, there’s also satisfactory brightness and contrast with the help of Dolby Vision technology.

Added into the package is its HDR10+ technology which enhances overall picture quality. For comparison, this equates to lifelike visuals. 

The TCL C716 sports a large 50-inch screen with a super-slim bezel for wider screen-to-body ratio. And just like other TCL TVs, you can have it prop onto its bundled base stand or save more space by mounting it against the wall.

Apart from its amazing picture quality, the TCL C716 is built with utmost ease-of-use in mind. This is evident with its streamlined AI platform for a better user experience when it comes to navigating within apps and programmes. There’s also built-in Google Assistant for you to enjoy hands-free voice activation regardless of searching movies and controlling other TV functions.

The sound quality is just as immersive, complete with a 3D audio quality equivalent of a mini home theatre experience, thanks to its integrated Dolby Atmos system. It also supports DTS Smart Audio Processing that helps to enhance the audio through your built-in TV speaker with punchy bass response.

You can also utilise TCL C716’s MagiConnect feature. Not only can you choose to cast your favourite content (e.g. movies or series) from your smartphone to the TV screen but MagiConnect also allows you to cast them back vice versa.

Finally, the TCL C716 uses Android 9.0 OS, which is reportedly smooth and snappy. You can definitely enjoy big-screen entertainment in a seamless manner possible.

Here is another value-for-money TCL TV that comes with a reasonable price tag. While this D3000 is not a Smart TV, it has plenty of features you can look forward to. Firstly, it boasts an A+ grade Full HD (FHD) panel, meaning you can get the highest quality possible with little-to-none common flaws like banding and such.

Overall picture quality is sharp for its price point. The essentials are done right as well, coming with multiple connectivity options including USB 2.0, HDMI 1.4 port and a built-in WiFi at 2.4G. Users who have bought this particular model praised its reasonable weight at under 10kg, making it easier to mount the TV against the wall.

The 40-inch display is wide enough at 16:9 aspect ratio, with overall slim-bezel designs. An only gripe here is the bottom panel which is engraved with the TCL logo, altogether occupying more space than the rest of the three edges.

Another setback is the built-in sound quality, which is a mixed bag. Some users praised the integrated audio for being above-average while others find it mediocre at best.

Given its price point, this air conditioner comes with several nifty features such as a self-diagnosis system which displays information in the case of malfunction or irregularities. You can have your preferred cooling settings tailored according to your needs with its 5-speed wind level too.

Then, there’s the Smart Air Flow technology which helps to cover more space. Here’s where the cool and warm air is respectively blown upwards and downwards, offering an even distribution to the area. You can also save energy and minimise your electricity bill with the Eco mode.

Meanwhile, the Sleep Mode helps to regulate the temperature efficiently throughout the night while you are sleeping. And finally, another interesting feature is the Mute Mode, designed to reduce common humming noises typically associated with an air-conditioning unit. 

While it may sound like a handy feature for those who prefer a quiet environment, there are some users who pointed out that this feature doesn’t work too well. Irritating noise is experienced instead and seems to come from the air conditioner. This is due to the fact that the air conditioner uses a non-inverter motor, which tends to be noisy once it reaches a certain temperature.
