Samsung is making it even easier to track and improve both with some exciting new updates for your wrist. The Korean tech giant is giving us a sneak peek at what's coming to its new smartwatches with its One UI 8 Watch updates.

Besides a new  "squircle" body, the Samsung Galaxy Watch is bringing you a personalised running coach, smarter sleep guidance, and even a peek at your body's antioxidant level. A beta version of this new software will be available this month for Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5 and newer models, with users in South Korea and the U.S. currently eligible to join the beta program.

A New Running Buddy

For many runners, hitting personal bests without getting injured is a constant juggle. That's where the new Running Coach feature steps in. It's designed to be your personal trainer on your wrist, offering real-time guidance and a unique training program tailored just for your fitness level.

Here's how it works: just strap on your watch, go for a 12-minute run, and it'll analyse your performance, giving you a running level on a scale of 1 to 10. Based on that, you'll get a detailed plan to safely tackle a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or even a full marathon! It'll break down your run into different sections, like faster "repetitions" and slower "jogs," to help you manage your pace. With every session completed, you'll level up, unlocking your next challenge.

This sounds a lot like Apple Watch's Workout Buddy, which was recently announced at WWDC2025 last week. That too aims to keep you motivated by giving you personalised insights during your workout, all based on your fitness history and real-time vital data.

Bedtime Guidance & Vascular Health

We know sleep is everything and Samsung knows this too. Beyond analysing your sleep patterns and offering coaching, your Galaxy Watch is now ready to suggest an optimal bedtime just for you. By looking at your last three nights of sleep, it figures out your body's "sleep pressure" and natural rhythm to recommend a bedtime so you wake up as fresh as daisy the next day. The watch then sends out reminders to help to stick to that schedule.

The Galaxy Watch also includes the feature that detects signs of sleep apnea — a sleep disorder that affects your breathing while you're asleep — and help you take proactive steps to manage it.

And here's a truly fascinating addition: your Galaxy Watch can now measure vascular load while you sleep. By wearing your watch overnight, you'll receive insights into the stress on your vascular system essentially, how hard your blood vessels are working. Since a healthy vascular system is crucial for heart health, this offers a unique window into your overall well-being, connecting back to how factors like sleep, exercise, and stress impact your body.

Antioxidants on Your Wrist

Taking a holistic view of health, Samsung is also diving into the science of aging. Everyday habits like smoking, drinking, stress, and even lack of sleep can increase "free radicals" that damage your cells and speed up aging. Antioxidants, found in healthy foods, help fight these off.

Your Galaxy Watch is now equipped to measure carotenoids powerful antioxidants found in colourful fruits and veggies – right from your skin! This industry-first feature uses the watch's advanced BioActive sensor to measure them in just five seconds. Samsung recommends using your thumb on the sensor for the most accurate results. Seeing how your "Antioxidant Index" changes (like after eating a spinach salad, for example) can be a great motivator for healthier habits!

These four new features are available on Android phones (Android 10 or above) and requires Samsung Health app (v6.30 or later). While these features are being rolled out, CNN reported that Samsung is working on an AI-powered health chatbot, though the details are still under wraps.
