Telmont: A Commitment to Organic Conversion and Sustainability

Founded by Henri Lhôpital in 1912, Telmont steers toward the future with its unique vision of viticulture and the values it holds dear: loyalty, humility, and courage. The House initiated its journey towards organic conversion in 2017, securing certification for some of its vineyards.

At the launch, Telmont also shared its five ambitious objectives centred around sustainability.

Under the mantle of “In Nomine Terrae” – in the name of Mother Nature, Telmont aims to carve an exemplary path towards becoming a 100% organic House with reduced environmental impact. The House has identified five tangible objectives:

  1. Preserving terroir and biodiversity: The goal is to convert 100% of the estate to organic agriculture by 2025, supporting partner winegrowers in their shift towards organic agriculture, aiming for 100% conversion by 2031. Biodiversity will be encouraged across the entire estate.

  2. Generalizing eco-design: Telmont is stepping away from standard champagne packaging, focusing solely on the bottle and banning outer packaging or gift boxes. They aim to replace transparent bottles with 100% recyclable green bottles, made from 85% recycled glass.

  3. Transitioning to 100% renewable electricity: The House is committed to developing on-site solar power and using only electric vehicles.

  4. Overhauling the logistics chain: The House aims to limit greenhouse gas emissions indirectly related to its business by selecting transporters based on their CSR score, and maintaining a zero-air transport policy for supply and distribution.

  5. Intensifying efforts in terms of traceability and information: Each bottle will be numbered for traceability, and front labels will contain all production-related information and detailed contents.

The Rémy Cointreau Group, the majority shareholder since October 2020, fully supports these ambitious objectives. The programme will be implemented by Ludovic du Plessis, President and shareholder of the House, and Bertrand Lhôpital, great-grandson of the House’s founder, Henri.
