Most smartphones have a similar problem: they struggle to get bright enough to be visible under direct sunlight, yet blaze blindingly with the force of a thousand suns when you're checking the time in the middle of the night. No matter how fancy your phone's display is, there's no avoiding eye strain and fatigue when you're using it for long hours.
These displays really aren't doing your eyesight any favours, so it's good news that the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S23 series features the new and improved Adaptive Vision Booster on its Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that also supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
Samsung's Vision Booster technology was first introduced in the preceding Galaxy S22 series as the Vision Booster. Basically, it enhances visibility in bright outdoor conditions to recreate similar viewing conditions to indoor conditions — but not just in brightness. It also adjusts the colour contrast so that the display is clearer under all conditions.
Now, with the new and improved Adaptive Vision Booster in the Galaxy S23 series, the phone can adjust to three levels of lighting instead of two. The Galaxy S23's improved Adaptive Vision Booster uses algorithmic technology on the Dynamic AMOLED display to combat brightness and glare in daylight.
Not only that, but it's also able to adjust the colour tone and contrast of the display as well, meaning the panel will be ideal for when you're gaming under the sunny weather outdoors with your friends!

How does Samsung's Adaptive Vision Booster work?
The Adaptive Vision Booster was developed specifically for use in environments where there is intense and direct light shining on your screen so that you can't view it properly.
However, even in less-than-ideal lighting conditions, the Galaxy S23's screen remains clear and easy to view. Most importantly, there's no hassle in enabling this feature in Settings as Adaptive Vision Booster works automatically in the Galaxy S23 series.
Dr. Byung Duk Yang, Vice President and Head of Display R&D Group in MX Business at Samsung Electronics, described that the Galaxy’s Vision Booster technology uses “a new algorithm to enhance outdoor visibility of the display in direct sunlight or situations where reflections are prominent on the display itself”.
The Adaptive Vision Booster function uses tone mapping to improve readability in bright outdoor light. This means that this feature will be automatically activated if your Galaxy S23 device detects bright outdoor lighting that causes bright reflections on the screen! By adjusting the display through tone-mapping, it also brightens dark areas and maximises colour contrast.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series gives you the freedom to play whenever and wherever you like. With its vivid and bright display, you won't have to worry about squinting or losing focus during long gaming marathons and movie sessions, even in bright sunlight or dim lighting.
