Nothing Phone (2) Scheduled For Late 2023 Release in U.S.

The next Nothing flagship will be more 'premium' with better software development

In a recent interview with Inverse, Nothing CEO Carl Pei revealed that a new flagship Nothing Phone (2) will launch later this year in the U.S. market. Though he was reluctant to brand it as a new "flagship", Pei stated that the Android smartphone will receive a more premium step-up and improved hardware from the Phone (1).

It is expected that the Phone (2) will likely build on the industrial transparent aesthetic established by the Phone (1) and the rest of Nothing’s product lineup like the Ear (1) and Ear (Stick). The customizable LED system on the backside of the avant-garde Phone (1) dubbed the Glyph interface should see also see a return, but this time with a rumoured API that’ll allow third-party developers to configure for it, as stated by Inverse.

After a string of successful product launches, there's still little to know about Nothing's future product rollouts as they remain shrouded in mystery. This is because any number of factors beyond Nothing's control could delay or even prevent any future releases. However, what we can expect is an upgrade to the phone's software as Carl Pei had said that Nothing's new software team can now create a “really fast and smooth experience based on Android", which aligns with what they look for in software.

Other than the soon-to-come Phone (2), Nothing is also planning its expansion into the other side of the region by opening more retail stores for fans and newcomers. Pei told Inverse that Nothing’s first retail store, which opened in December in London’s Soho district has been a hit while mentioning the company's potential new releases as they "need a slightly richer product portfolio with more products.”

The company also thought about opening a store in the U.S., but they don't want to "overextend themselves." Plans may also be affected by the impending economic downturn. However, Carl Pei remains upbeat, reasoning that Nothing may be able to snag a prime piece of real estate at a discount despite the economic downturn.
