The Samsung Galaxy S22 Series came out way back in February this year, and has been known to be one of the best Android phones on the market, thanks to its fast processors, superb camera system, and of course, the inclusion of the S Pen in the S22 Ultra model. Even almost a year later, the Galaxy S22 still stood up to time and remains a worthy flagship competitor.
That said, the smartphone industry is always moving. Since the release of the Galaxy S22 Series, there have been some really impressive upgrades on specs from other phones as well: giant megapixel cameras, tougher-than-nails screens, and the newest processors. It’s looking as if Samsung has some tough competition in the market.
Now that the year is coming to a close, it’s time to get geared up for the next Galaxy phone: and here’s what we know about it so far.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Specs Leaked
According to Sammobile, the unreleased Galaxy S23 Ultra has just recently received China’s TENAA certification, which lists out the full specs of the new phone.

- Display: 6.8” QHD+, 3088x1440
- Memory: 8GB/12GB RAM
- Storage: 156GB, 512 GB, 1 TB
- Rear camera: 200MP main + 12MP Ultrawide + 10MP telephoto (3x zoom) + 10 MP telephoto (10x zoom)
- Front camera: 12MP
- Battery: 5000 mAh (4855mAh)
This list truly looks promising, but will the new Galaxy be innovative or iterative? Let’s break it down here.
Innovative: Processors
Rumours that the new Galaxy phone will be having the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip have been circulating for a good while now, and while this leak doesn’t outright mention that the phone will be having the newest Qualcomm chip, all information matches that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.
The three CPU clusters running at 3.36Ghz, 2.8 GHz, and 2 GHz respectively, match the specs of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 AC version, which has a higher clock speed than the base AB version.
This means that the new device may be considerably faster and more efficient than its current predecessor, which is quite the innovation.
Iterative: Design & Display
In many render leaks, the new Galaxy phone looks like it will be retaining the same design as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The only change is that Samsung has removed the camera module from the base and Plus models as well, keeping the same lens-protruding design we see on the Galaxy S22 Ultra today.
In another angle, we can see that while the Ultra model has rounded corners, it still looks as blocky as its predecessor. We’re glad that the leaked dummy models still shows the S Pen built into the phone; it would’ve been great if Samsung could include the Pen in the other models too, but it doesn’t seem like that will be happening in the next generation yet.
As for the display, nothing much is known yet apart from the size and resolution for the Ultra model, and what we know so far is not even iterative; it’s just the same. The rumoured Galaxy S23 will be getting a 6.8 QHD+ display with a 3088x1440 resolution, which is the exact same specs as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Innovative: Cameras
This is where it gets interesting. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is widely known for its camera capabilities, especially the image quality taken under low light thanks to the famed Nightography. For the new Galaxy phone, it seems like Samsung is taking this one step further, by adding an impressive 200MP main camera to the camera system.
A well-known leaker on Weibo, Ice Universe, has leaked what they claim to be the first sample photos of the 200MP camera on the new Galaxy phone, with a comparison sample from the S22 Ultra side-by-side:
Ice Universe has also claimed that the main camera on the new Galaxy phone will offer even better low-light performance than the S22 Ultra. If that is true, then the new Galaxy phone could potentially be the best camera smartphone on the market, surpassing even its own predecessor.
Iterative: Battery
Disappointingly, the new Galaxy Ultra phone will be retaining the same battery capacity as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
For flagships, 5000 mAh is pretty standard and nothing noteworthy. Leaks have revealed that the phone will only support 25W charging, which is significantly lower than what we already have on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, though Sammobile has alleged that the brand typically uses 25W for certification purposes.
Either way, we hope that the new Galaxy phone will have better charging and battery life than what is in speculation now when it comes out.
Keep in mind that everything discussed here is based on rumours, speculations, and dummy models, so the actual device might be different from expectations.
Whatever happens, one thing is sure: the new Galaxy phone has generated a lot of hype, and expectations are high. As of now, there is no official news on the launch yet, but since the S22 Series came out in February this year, we can expect the new launch to be around the same timing. 2023 sounds like a good year to change a new phone, doesn’t it?
