Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 could be taking design cues from its smartwatch — and not just in looks, but in functionality.
According to tipster @MajinBuOfficial, the rumoured shift to a horizontal camera bar on the iPhone 17 may have less to do with aesthetics and more with connectivity. Apple is reportedly testing a new antenna layout that wraps around the rear camera module, similar to the antenna placement in the Apple Watch Ultra.

The idea is to improve signal reception and stability. Current iPhones house their antennas along the metal frame edges, which can sometimes cause performance dips depending on how the phone is held or due to interference from internal metal parts. By relocating the antenna system to the rear camera bar, Apple could not only boost radio performance but also free up internal space for upgrades, like a larger battery or even a vapour chamber cooling system for better thermal management.
If the rumour proves true, the iPhone 17 may be one of the most connectivity-focused updates Apple has made in years. The company is expected to announce the new lineup in its usual September event window, reportedly in the second week of the month.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if this Apple Watch Ultra-inspired design tweak makes it to the final model — but it’s a move that could subtly redefine how iPhones connect to the world.
