Mate X7: Familiar Form, Flagship Muscle
- Display: A 7.95-inch LTPO panel with 2K resolution and ultra-thin glass (UTG) promises both sharper visuals and better durability
- Engine: The handset is expected to run Huawei’s next-generation Kirin 9030 chipset, a successor to the Kirin 9020 that could deliver double-digit efficiency gains.
- Cameras: Huawei is reportedly testing two main sensors (both 50 MP, up to 1/1.3-inch) with a physical variable aperture, backed by a 50 MP periscope lens and a multispectral color sensor for richer tones.
- Build & Software: A slimmer frame with IP-rated water resistance is planned, running HarmonyOS 5.1 out of the box.
Mate XT 2: Tri-Fold Ambition
Huawei’s follow-up to last year’s Mate XT could again bend the rules—literally—by folding twice into a compact slab. Early whispers suggest:
- Ultra-Flexible Glass (UFG): Replacing UTG for added bendability over three panels.
- Satellite Connectivity: Borrowed from Huawei’s flagship bar phones, enabling off-grid messaging.
- Upgraded Silicon & Imaging: A faster Kirin platform and revamped camera array are both rumored, though final specs remain under wraps.
Why It Matters
Samsung, Oppo, Vivo and Honor have all released their 2025 foldables, leaving Huawei as the last major hold-out. A simultaneous launch of a mainstream book-style model and a bleeding-edge tri-fold could restore Huawei’s innovation narrative—and lure buyers at home, where its HarmonyOS ecosystem keeps growing.
Launch Window & Availability
Multiple supply-chain tipsters put the announcement in the first half of September, positioning Huawei to steal a bit of spotlight from Apple’s iPhone launch cycle. As usual, an initial China-only release is expected, with global availability undecided amid ongoing U.S. sanctions.
