Nothing has just dropped that they are rolling out Nothing OS 4.0, powered by Android 16. This update is described to bring a refined and intelligent framework with powerful AI-driven creation tools via Essential Apps.

The few key features are focused on providing a more enhanced and premium experience to the user while feeling familiar without much visual difference.

Live Updates via Glyph Interface

One of the standout features is Live Updates, which delivers real-time ride, delivery, and timer information directly to the screen and the iconic Glyph Interface. This unifies lock-screen, notification, and light-based cues so users can track progress instantly without opening an app.

Any app that supports Android 16's Live Updates feature will now start supporting Nothing's Glyph Progress feature, meaning Nothing can support far more apps than before.

Extra Dark Mode & Smoother Animations

Nothing OS 4.0 will introduce a refined Extra Dark Mode that deepens blacks, improves contrast, and reduces power use across the system. It brings a calmer, more focused look to Notifications, Quick Settings, and the App Drawer, with wider integration to follow.

The update also enhances how the system feels in motion with haptic feedback at volume limits, smoother app open and close animations, and improved notification interactions that carry a subtle sense of weight and rebound.

More Customisation Options

On Nothing OS 4.0, users will be able to design their home screen with new 1×1 and 2×1 layouts for Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time widgets. The new Pop-up View feature allows users to open two floating apps at once and switch between them with simple gestures. Users can also hide any app from their App Drawer with Hidden Icons while keeping access just a swipe away.

AI-Powered Widget Builder

Nothing Playground lets users create their own Essential Apps by simply describing what they want in the Widget Builder, and AI builds it for them. Users can then add these directly to their home screen. Essential Apps live inside the new Widget Drawer, which brings everything built or collected into one organised view.

For Phone (3) users, NOS 4.0 unlocks deeper Flip to Glyph controls, refined Pocket Mode, new Glyph Toys, and improved Glyph Mirror Selfie.

Nothing OS 4.0 is now starting to roll out to Phone (3) and will expand to other Nothing and CMF smartphones soon.
