vivo X300 Pro Camera: A Look At The Latest Photography Smartphone in Town & Is it Worth Getting

When vivo announced the X300 Pro in October 2025, the smartphone photography community were excited yet reserved as the series might be China-exclusive due to how elaborative its design was. Many were hoping that vivo would deliver a globally available flagship that wouldn't compromise on camera prowess.

Fast forward to November 2025, and we're glad to see that the X300 Pro, together with its photography kit, has actually reached the shores of Malaysia. With this, we've had the opportunity to explore this camera powerhouse.

Here's a review on what to expect and whether it's worth its price of RM4,699 (16GB + 512GB).

Main Camera: Sony's Latest

Powering the X300 Pro is a new, shiny 50MP Sony LYT-828 sensor, developed jointly between vivo and Sony. It sports the same 1/1.28-inch optical format as its predecessor, but with a twist. This time, the Sony sensor is embued with vivo's VCS 3.0 technology for improved color rendition, and more importantly, with upgraded stabilization (achieving a gimbal-grade ±1.5° angle). This means an improvement in reducing blurry shots over the X200 Pro.

We had the chance to use the X300 pro in a K-pop concert recently, where we managed to achieve stunning results as expected. The main camera consistently delivered images with color reproduction almost true to life, without feeling as if it's over-processed (this is more apparent in greater zooms but that's expected).

That 200MP Telephoto?

If there's one camera that cements the X300 Pro's flagship status, it's its telephoto capabilities. The 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HPB sensor (measuring 1/1.4 inches) paired with an 85mm equivalent f/2.67 lens is, quite simply, one of the most luxurious telephoto implementations we've experienced lately.

We aren't talking about just clarity and resolution, which you can zoom into photos and find impressive details, but the versatility.

With a minimum focusing distance of just 14cm, zooming the telephoto further lets you shoot macro without needing to go upclose your subject awkwardly. You can easily keep a good distance, and shoot with clarity without struggling to take a clear shot.

Even though the focal length of 135mm is achievable, 85mm is the best for classic portraits on the X300 Pro. Also, skin tones still tend to be processed with a neutral tone, and facial features are captured with excellent detail albeit with some apparent shadows gone, making certain facial features less prominent and the subject more flat-looking overall.

At least on the X300 Pro, subject separation is convincingly organic rather than artificially enhanced.

Ultra-Wide and Selfie: Clear as Day

The 50MP Samsung JN1 ultra-wide camera (15mm equivalent, f/2.0) might not steal headlines, but it's a competent performer with autofocus—a feature that remains frustratingly rare in ultra-wide cameras. It should handle the likes of landscape and architecture shots well with minimal blur and distortion.

Meanwhile, the front-facing camera receives a notable upgrade: another 50MP Samsung JN1 sensor with autofocus and a 92-degree field of view. You can expect sharper group selfies across the frame, and video calls to looks even clearer.

The Photography Kit: A Game-Changer

If you love everything photography, read further.

The X300 Pro's most intriguing features is its optional Photography Kit—a system that includes a dedicated case with battery grip and a 2.35x telephoto extender lens. For just an additional RM999, the kit transforms the phone's 85mm camera into a 200mm optical equivalent.

With it, the extender works across all cameras and most shooting modes, effectively giving you a versatile zoom range from 15mm to 200mm optically, something which is even crazy for dedicated cameras to have. For wildlife photography, sports events, or concert photography, this accessory would be the ultimate tool to get those transformative shots.

Without (left) versus with (right) photographer kit lens

As what we experienced with the 85mm and 135mm optical performance for portraits, this 200mm kit will provide minimal optical degradation even with portrait shots (which means more true-to-life faces), and the autofocus remain just as fast and accurate. There's also a battery grip that adds heft but aids in better stability when shooting at longer focal lengths.

Although this is a niche accessory kit, but for photography enthusiasts it can solely become the reason to get the X300 Pro especially if travelling efficiently is of a great concern.

Who is this for?

From RM4,699, the vivo X300 Pro is quite a fair price for a flagship. Even just without the photography kit, its performance is worth considering the purchase. If you're looking for a photography phone that has optimal performance over challenging lighting especially in concerts, the vivo X300 Pro with ZEISS imaging is an appealing choice to get.

Alternatively, for those who wants a photography smartphone that gives off a cinematography feel can consider the pricier RM5,099 OPPO Find X9 with Hassleblad (review) instead. It also comes with a photography kit, has great sharp optics and is just as powerful.
