Samsung has unveiled its long talked-about Galaxy XR headset, marking its entry into the extended reality (XR) market and the beginning of a new Android XR ecosystem built in partnership with Google and Qualcomm Technologies.

As the first device built on the Android XR platform, Galaxy XR redefines immersive computing — blending AI, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) in one seamless headset designed for discovery, creativity, and productivity. The headset will be available for US$1,799.99 (approx. RM7,606).

Helping You to Reach Full Power of Multimodal AI

The purpose of Galaxy XR is to bank on its multimodal concept and help people to connect with the world through technology.

Galaxy XR is the officially the first product built on the new Android XR platform, which has Gemini embedded. With Gemini integrated at the system level, Galaxy XR is poised to act as a new type of AI companion that helps users to manage their tasks, delivering natural and intuitive interactions through voice, vision and gesture.

In the form of a headset, it understands users’ surroundings by seeing what they see and hearing what they hear. This allows Galaxy XR to respond in conversational ways that feel natural and human, giving users entirely new ways of interacting with technology.

Extended Experience Beyond Virtual Spaces

Samsung Galaxy XR Headset is designed to let users experience life in a more interesting way beyond spatial boundaries. With it, users can

  • Travel and search with Google Maps: Users can use Gemini as a guide to navigate to any place on Google Maps and ask for personalized suggestions about nearby places while exploring the world in immersive 3D maps.
  • Deep-dive into content with AI: Users can naturally ask Gemini to find content they want to see in YouTube and get more information about the video they are watching, unlocking richer learning and entertainment experiences.
  • See more with video pass through and Circle to Search: In pass through mode, users can see the physical world around them and draw a circle with their hand to instantly search for information about anything in front of them.
  • Auto-spatialize videos and photos into 3D: Bring photos and videos to life by converting 2D images into 3D, turning memories into immersive experiences or reimagining them in entirely new ways.

Equipped with advanced sensors, cameras and powerful hardware, Galaxy XR can track users’ head, hand and eye movement for a more fluid, intuitive user experience. The device’s microphones are strategically placed and supported by software to filter out external noises and capture the wearer’s voice clearly.

Galaxy XR also opens new levels of immersion in entertainment — including sports and gaming — with the latest hardware that's capable of superior performance.

  • Immersive viewing experiences: Users can stream their favorite shows on a 4K Micro-OLED screen that feels like a personal theater.
  • Sports experiences: Sports fans can watch multiple games at the same time, feeling as if they are right in the stadium.
  • AI-enhanced gaming experiences: While playing XR-specialized games, users can chat with Gemini for real-time coaching, tips and enhanced gameplay experiences.
  • Create and edit in 3D: Project Pulsar from Adobe makes cinematic video edits easy—users can add 3D depth, and layer captions or icons behind subjects on a larger-than-life canvas.

Powered by Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 2, Galaxy XR delivers next generation immersive experiences with visual clarity and advanced AI through the Qualcomm® Hexagon™ NPU. Plus, 2.5 hours of battery usage time enables users to enjoy their favorite content in total, uninterrupted immersion.

Open Collaboration Brings a Scalable Android XR Ecosystem

Co-developed with Google and Qualcomm, the OS Android XR is a platform that is designed to scale across a variety of form factors, from headsets to AI glasses and beyond.

All apps built on the Android platform would be ready to work on Galaxy XR, ensuring users can enjoy familiar mobile experiences they already love, on top of making the device as useful day-to-day as it is groundbreaking. Since the platform is built on OpenXR standards, it will be easy for developers using OpenXR, WebXR or Unity to bring their experiences to Galaxy XR.

Discover, Work and Play Altogether

Galaxy XR has been engineered with a human-centric design to deliver long-term comfort. Through a combination of its shape, advanced materials and the structural optimization of each component, Galaxy XR delivers an optimal balance between lightweight design and robustness for daily use.

Samsung says the headset’s ergonomically balanced frame distributes pressure across the forehead and the back of the head, minimizing facial discomfort while providing steady support. Contributing to this is also the headset's battery pack that is separate from the headset, making the device more compact, light and comfortable to wear.

Galaxy XR also features a detachable light shield, offering eye comfort as immediate as possible after use. This also helps with deeper immersion by blocking external light when attached.

In The Near Future...

Samsung is pushing to have Galaxy XR aid in virtual training in industries like shipbuilding and construction, boosting workplace productivity and safety. Through its partnership with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces™, Samsung will also open the platform to enterprise developers, enabling them to build Android XR–optimized business solutions for training, design collaboration, and secure remote operations.

On the consumer side, Samsung’s XR roadmap includes the development of AI-powered smart glasses in collaboration with Google, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster. These upcoming wearables will supposedly merge AI-native technology with fashion and lifestyle design, offering stylish, lightweight eyewear that integrates seamlessly with the Android XR ecosystem — extending immersive experiences into everyday work, creativity, and entertainment.
