Qualcomm Technologies Inc. promises new benchmarks for mobile and PC performance with the launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Snapdragon X2 Elite Series chipsets at the Snapdragon Summit 2025 in Maui.

These new chips deliver a massive leap in speed, efficiency, and most importantly, how intuitive your devices can be. Qualcomm's focus this time round: making things faster and building dedicated 'AI engines' into these chips.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

This new flagship chip is slated to power the next wave of high-end smartphones from brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

Unprecedented Speed and Efficiency

The core of this chip is the 3rd Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which Qualcomm boldly calls the fastest mobile CPU ever. Apps will open swiftly, switching between demanding tasks won't cause lags, and even complex mobile gaming will be even smoother.

Agentic AI on Your Phones

Perhaps the most interesting new feature is the introduction of Agentic AI. Moving beyond a passive digital assistant, agentic AI is more intelligent, possessing the ability to run directly on your phone. It learns and acts on your behalf based on your app activity, routine, preferences, and conversations.

Professional-Grade Video Tools

For anyone who creates content, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 brings studio-level quality to your phone camera.

It's equipped with Advanced Professional Video (APV), allowing for professional-level video production and extensive control over post-production.

The chip provides a full suite of pro-grade video tools, enabling effortless HDR video capture and real-time instant highlights. The best moments of the videos are said to be automatically clipped for you, saving time when editing and sharing.

There's also features like Context-Aware auto-focus, auto-exposure, and auto-white balance work together to ensure your subjects are always sharp, colours look true, and bright spots are perfectly controlled in every scene.

The Snapdragon X2 Elite Series

This series features the powerful X2 Elite Extreme and the X2 Elite, and was made specifically for ultra-premium Windows 11 PCs. Its goal is to redefine what a thin, light laptop can do, especially regarding battery life and multi-tasking.

Multi-Day Battery Life and Power

The X2 Elite series can tackle complex, expert-level workloads such as professional media editing, data analysis, and advanced research, all while having reliable multi-day battery life.

The standard X2 Elite is up to 31% faster than the previous generation at the same power level, and requires up to 43% less power overall. This means serious performance that lasts for days without needing a charger.

The World’s Fastest AI Engine for Laptops

The biggest story here is the Neural Processing Unit (NPU), made to be an AI powerhouse.

This power is essential for running Copilot+ PCs, the newest generation of Windows machines that rely heavily on integrated AI experiences. It allows for advanced features, including:

  • Agentic AI on your PC
  • Fast AI acceleration for tasks like media editing and generating content
  • Handling resource-intensive tasks simultaneously across multiple programmes
  • For professionals, the chip supports running multiple concurrent AI experiences while also enabling you to multitask across up to three 5K 60Hz monitors.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will change how we use mobile cameras and integrate Agentic AI into our daily routines, while the Snapdragon X2 Elite Series promises to finally deliver powerful Windows PCs with the multi-day battery life we’ve always dreamed of.
