In a recent private preview, HONOR invited local media to take a first look at the upcoming HONOR X9d, set to release this 24th September. Various durability tests were held to showcase the HONOR X9d's durability, pushing the mid-range smartphone to the limits in various possible stressful situations that physically puts it at risk of breaking.
Impact Testing with Plasma Cannon & Industrial-Grade Nail Gun
During the media preview, one of the most striking demonstrations involved the use of a custom-built plasma cannon that directed extreme heat and high-pressure blasts at the device, simulating scenarios far beyond typical real-world conditions. Despite the intense force, the smartphone remained fully operational without sustaining visible damage.
In another test, the device’s screen was subjected to direct impact from an industrial-grade air nail gun and a heavy-duty stapler gun. While nails continuously struck the display surface, the HONOR X9d 5G showed no signs of cracking or damage. In comparison, soft drink cans and tempered glass used in the same test were visibly damaged, highlighting the superior strength and structural integrity of the device.
Industry-Leading Water and Dust Protection with IP69K Rating
The HONOR X9d 5G also features the highest-level IP69K water and dust resistance certification, offering comprehensive protection rarely seen in smartphones. During a live demonstration, the device was submerged in an aquarium for several hours and remained fully operational upon removal.
Further tests exposed the phone to high-moisture and heat conditions by placing it inside a steaming kitchen steamer, followed by immersion in a soil-and-water mixture to replicate harsh outdoor environments. The smartphone performed flawlessly in every scenario, reinforcing its reputation as one of the most rugged consumer devices available.
Industry’s Largest Smartphone Battery Capacity
Powering the HONOR X9d 5G is an 8300mAh silicon-carbon battery, currently the largest battery capacity available in the industry. This allows users to enjoy extended gaming sessions, video streaming, and browsing with minimal need for recharging.
To demonstrate its capabilities, HONOR conducted a comparative endurance test involving 20 smartphones from various brands. As each device’s battery gradually depleted, the HONOR X9d 5G remained the last one operating, confirming its superior power capacity. In a separate demonstration, it successfully powered a neon LED board through reverse charging for an extended period, showcasing not just its capacity but also its output strength and efficiency.

From high-pressure impacts and exposure to heat and water, to dusty and muddy conditions, the device has been engineered to handle the unexpected.
