Qualcomm has launched the Dragonwing Q-6690, a new mobile processor with fully integrated RFID capabilities.

Right now, devices that use this RFID technology, like inventory scanners, are big and bulky. But with this new chip, future devices could be as slim and light as a regular smartphone. A shop assistant can use a lightweight, all-in-one device to check stock or process a sale, without having to carry a huge, clunky scanner.

The new chip uses RAIN RFID technology, making the shopping experience more efficient for everyone. Instead of scanning items one by one, the device can use radio waves to quickly read dozens of tags at once, even if they're hidden from view.

You won't even have to scan your items one by one at the self-checkout. You just place your whole basket down, and the total appears instantly.

A worker could walk through a storeroom and instantly get a complete inventory count in seconds, saving hours of manual labour. It gives business owners real-time, accurate data about their stock, helping them make smarter decisions and avoid running out of popular items.

The Dragonwing Q-6690 is also complete with built-in 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0 for fast and reliable connectivity. This allows for new "proximity-aware" features, such as smart kiosks that can interact with items nearby or handhelds that know exactly where they are in a warehouse.

The processor is also designed to be adaptable. It comes with flexible features that a manufacturer can choose from, allowing them to create a wide range of devices, including rugged scanners and sleek point-of-sale systems.

These features can be upgraded with software updates, so companies don't have to replace their hardware every time a new technology comes out. This ensures a longer lifespan for the devices and a better return on investment.
