Ever wanted to be a DJ? The idea of someone loving a song we recommended is a special feeling, but imagine if someone complimented the way a song flows to the next.
Spotify is introducing the ability to add and customise transitions between songs. The feature, currently in beta, will be available to Premium subscribers.
Pretty soon, you'll see a "Mix" option on the toolbar for your curated Spotify playlists. While the "Auto" mixes the songs for you, you can also customise your mix and mess around with different transitions available to suit the vibe you're going for. From there, presets such as "Fade" or "Rise" lets you control how the previous song transitions over to the next and further spice up your mix by playing around with the volume, EQ, and effect curves.
To make things easier, Spotify will display a waveform for the two songs, helping you select the best place to make the swap.

Spotify recommends matching songs with similar tempos for the most natural-sounding transitions. The app will automatically display the key and the beats per minute for each track, to make it easier for audio-mixing babies to get started. It'll be really awkward to go from the peppy I Wanna Dance With Somebody to the melancholic My Heart Will Go On. Unless you intend it so.
After you're done with transitions, you can save them for future use or share them with your friends. And Spotify didn't miss out on collaborative playlists. The transition editor is also available for any playlists you've curated with your buddies. Then if you want to take it a step further, you can even create your own cover art with stickers and labels.
