Samsung teased its first XR (extended reality) headset dubbed Project Moohan, which is being developed in collaboration with Google and will run on Google's Android XR platform. It will be the company's first-generation rival for Apple's Vision Pro spatial computer.
However, a new report has stated that Samsung will be working on a more simplified pair of AI glasses for the mass consumer in late 2026.
Samsung's Very Own Smart Glasses
According to South Korean news outlet Seoul Economic Daily, Samsung'a first pair of smart glasses will be a standalone product, unrelated to Samsung's partnership with Google.
Design-wise, Samsung's smart glasses will be similar to Meta's Ray-Ban glasses with built-in microphone, speakers, and a camera. It won't have a display and is rumoured to come with an AI assistant allowing the wearer to make calls, send texts, capture content, and control media playback, GSM Arena reported.

BGR opined that AI-only smart glasses can still be useful despite its lack of a display. Products like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Meta AI can support multimodal input such as images, videos, and voice in addition to text input.
SamMobile noted that these smart glasses will not run Android. Samsung may have anticipated that it will have to compete with Google in the future and may launch its first AI glasses with its own software.
Samsung also reportedly has two more pairs of AI glasses called Project Haean and Project Jinju currently in development, and they are expected to be launched alongside the Project Moohan headset.

Glasses: The Future Tech Gadget?
The South Korean firm wants to establish its own lineup of AI glasses, as it envisions this product category succeeding smartphones as the next-generation device due to its ability to share the wearer's view in real-time and can travel with the wearer.
This sentiment was recently shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who went as far as to say that people without AI smart glasses will be "at a cognitive disadvantage". Plus, Samsung and Meta aren't the only tech giants that have singled out smartglasses as the next frontier in consumer gadgets market.

Apple and Xiaomi are also actively developing smartglasses technology. While Xiaomi has released its Xiaomi AI Glasses in late June, Apple's first pair of smart glasses is looking to launch as early as the end of next year.
Meta, in the meantime, will be releasing its third generation of the Ray-Ban, which will be equipped with a display later this year.
